I think she did advance because of her outfit. The guys (Simon and Randy) were definitely distracted from her mediocre-singing voice by her bikini. Admittedly, she did have a really nice body, but it's not fair to other people who were better singers than her who didn't make it through.
On a somewhat related topic, I don't understand why Randy and Simon's votes outweighed Paula and Kara's.
I think her attitude contributed to her advancement. She is obviously very confident and that is the personality they are looking for. Of course there were some other candidates that were very confident but had zero skills, she at least had something going for her.
She also stood up for herself and continued to sing to prove her worth based on talent and not with a sob story or by making the judges feel guilty. When it comes down to it I think this is what sealed the deal for her. She didn't rely on her looks, she pushed herself to perform well even when she was given a hard time.
Her advancement was entirely for ratings. While she has (at best) a decent singing voice, Mariah Carey was a poor choice for her limited ability. She started strong, but didn't have the talent to go forward.
She was advanced because she knows how to get attention and the network knows she will bring in ratings for the Hollywood part of the show. She will NOT make the top 10, guaranteed. I can assure you as well that Simon will rip her apart when it comes to the point in the competition when talent actually starts to matter.
Yes because Simon was stunned and liked her attitude. On the other hand she had a decent voice. She will be gone in hollywood.
American Idol is less a talent competition and more a tv show, and she was chosen because she will bring in viewers. She will bring in viewers mainly because she has a nice body, however, she also has a nice voice, so the judges cannot be blamed for advancing her for her body. No one with a better voice than her was rejected, so the competition was fair, but the main reason she advanced was because of her body.
It's not the outfit, per se, because you can always add girls in bikinis to a show if that's all it takes. It's the controversy about the outfit. Something to talk about.
The show is old, and anything that gets a little buzz going the morning after helps.
I actually thought she had a decent voice and that she didn't need to go to those lengths to "get through" to Hollywood. I'm sure she wasn't the only one who showed up like that. She just happened to be the one they featured on tonight's show.
I think she advanced because of the new judging system. All they need is 2 votes, hello Simon and Randy! I also think that once she gets to Hollywood we will be surprised to hear her actually sing a decent song.

It's not just her outfit that advanced her, because if she did not have a great voice, her outfit alone would have not advanced her. I believe the judges know better and they look beyond what they are wearing, and more so focus on the singing talent and personality. In the past years, the judges have advanced people previously who are not the best dressed such as Elliot Yamin, he does not dress impressive in any way, yet he had great singing talent.
It is always a good rule of thumb that if a woman wants to attract the attention of men she should wear a bit less than the other women are wearing.
It's a tee vee show. My answer: yes. Yes, but who cares?
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
