Being 57 and still single I'm clearly not a huge fan of marriage in general, but at least I have the choice of whether or not to marry. I believe that gay people are every bit as deserving of that right as I am.

I really don't think States should be involved in "marriage" at all. States should do civil unions and let the people go to a church if they feel they need that.

Marriage in the United States is not a sacred institution. It is a legal contract, and I see no reason why two consenting adults should not be allowed to enter into it. Religious institutions, however, should not be obligated for perform a marriage for gay people or for anyone else.

You can't force a religious institution to perform a ceremony. It is important, however, to make a distinction between the legal contract and the religious ceremony, something many people seem unable to do. Here is a more detailed description of my point of view.

1. Homosexuals crusade for the legalization of same-sex marriage.

2. Same-sex marriage becomes legal in all 50 states.

3. "Consenting-adult" brothers and sisters, fathers and daughters, mothers and sons, grandmas and grandsons, grandpas and granddaughters (who are all in love with each other) crusade for the legalization of "within-the-family marriage".

4. "Within-the-family-marriage" becomes legal in all 50 states.

5. Guys who want to have two or more wives at the same time crusade for their equal rights in the area of marriage.

7. Men who want to marry their "embraceable ewes" and women who want to marry their Great Danes crusade for their equal rights.

8. Marriage between human beings and animals is legalized in all 50 states.

Yes. Opposition to it stems from religious beliefs which are predated by the concept of same-sex marriage itself. It's amazing that so many people are against it when the Wikipedia article on Marriage debunks these beliefs by showing very clearly that, since it predates even recorded history, it is very much not a religious concept.

Look, as member of the LGBT community, I understand where you're coming from but, marriage is religious institution which has intertwined church and state over time. The rights are what's important but everyone's getting caught up in the semantics of it all.

1. Joni: what is the difference between marriage and wedlock. There all the same thing.

Your just trying to get all technical about it.

2. ABSOLUTELY. Nobody has the right to say what someone can and cant do, although this is america, it is personal buisness, not the public's business.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
