Self respect, self esteem all mean valuing oneself, without positive affirmations or conversing as you put it self respect or esteem will be zero zilch.

But, beyond that, you can talk with God, your spirit (which is the oldest form of you that's in touch with God, outside of time), or, as a neurobiologist would phrase it, your mind. Where the idea comes from, however its magic works, I think we all agree it's what makes us human.
