Do you think that I should abandon some of my managed pages?

I think you are taking the wrong approach if you are trying to make money at it, clearly hardly any pages are going to make more than a few cents from time to time. You can check this by looking at other people's stats, such as the ones who Mahalo boasts are high earners. All their earnings are coming from a few pages, and those pages are spammy things like "how to save money".

They are not the scholarly, technical, or in any way interesting pages. So, if you like maintaining pages on subjects of interest to you, just forget the money side. If you just want to make money, keep any that seem to work and ditch the rest.

Get your limit raised (only a couple of days or so) and try writing "how to" "coupon" etc pages trying to find ones people overlooked.

If your pages are all on topics that interest you, and that you are willing to maintain, then you should keep them. If they are not pages that you are willing to put the time into adding content, or promoting and marketing, then you should abandon them. I would suggest taking a few pages that are either getting lots of views, but not ad clicks and getting clicks, but not alot of traffic, and doing this:!.

For pages with views, but not ads, I'd work on adding content to the page that will produce more relevant ads- or ads that people are likely to click on. For example, if you had a page on Eastern Equine Encephalitis that was getting traffic but not ad clicks, adding some text about ways to eliminate mosquitoes might be helpful bot to the user and produce more clickable ads. 2.

I you have a page getting alot of clicks but not alot of traffic, I'd blog about it, link to it in forum discussions, and post it to digg, stumble upon, etc, to get more traffic. Neither of these approaches is quick or easy - it takes time. I'd suggest looking at your portfolio and picking a few areas to concentrate in.

If you have 10 Real Estate related pages, you'll be able to market them more efficiently than 10 pages on disparate topics.

Hang on to all of them until the stats are correct, then you make an educated decision. Until then put all your efforts into the high earners. If you release them it's unlikely anyone will pick them up because people are going to be very choosy when they only get two to manage.

Here's my 2 cents. I would first look at it from Mahalo's perspective. Their goal is to have interesting pages.

And I know you are a motivated and active page manager. Added to that, Mahalo is adding many tools, like the automated news sections, that help to keep content fresh with a bit less work from the manager. So I'm guessing that if you request a page management increase, they are most likely going to keep your number at or above what it is now.

I think you're wrong about Mahalo wanting everyone to manage 2 pages. They just didn't want people who were high belt levels, but were too busy to do a good job, to just let several pages sit there. I don't think you do that.So I wouldn't abandon anything just yet.

(Optional) Have some fun with it. Mahalo doesn't want you to sell pages, but I think something like asking an interesting question on Mahalo Answers like "Who out there thinks they deserve to manage the Will Smith page and why? " (We can wait and see if any NO NO responses pop up for that one).

It might make sense to hang onto all of them until you're sure that the stats are being logged property and that the accurate stats still aren't satisfactory. That being said, certain pages take more editing and management than others. If you manage a page about a movie that came out several years ago, for example, it's unlikely to take up much of your time.

I'd suggest focusing on low-maintenance pages.

Robbrown.... We think alike, as so often... at least when it comes to Mahalo! However you may be fretting needlessly. Today during the advanced class I asked for my page limit to be increased so that I could look at creating some deals pages as per the tutorial.It's already been actioned and my limit is back up to 50.

So I've been able to drop a bunch of pages that I wasn't sure about, claim a few that I was interested in, and create a few more. I suggest as a first step you request an increase and see how many they give you. Of course however many they give you, you'll still need to make decisions about which to keep, especially if you have an idea for a new one.

Personally I think the stats are intermittently updated, but I think they give enough of a ball-park feel that I can make decisions based on them. I abandoned Will Smith for example, although the page had clocked up some 146 views and made a grand total of 8c. I figure however off the stats are, I'm not missing out on a fortune there.

:) And the page might work a lot better for someone that's a dedicated Will Smith fan, who'll be happy to blog and tweet about him. However I chose to hang on to Andy Murray although the page hasn't made a cent yet.It's still got 168 page views (apparently) and I figure his career might take off. Besides which I mostly know how he's doing anyway without making any extra effort.

Still it wasn't that easy to decide which pages to drop because after a month of playing around, I didn't really have any pages that I didn't have some reason to keep.

I think that Mahalo's decision to limit us to 2 pages is a big mistake. Firstly, let's be honest, we're all out to make a buck. For those of us who arrived late, most of the really high profile pages are already claimed, so that means making due with more, smaller pages that get fewer hits.

I don't think that limiting me to 2 pages is going to make them better quality. If the hits aren't there, the the money isn't there which means the incentive is not there. Hence, I'll eventually drop the pages alltogether and look elsewhere for that 'quick buck'.

My answer, keep them and hopefully in the next few weeks Mahalo will reverse it's decision.

My suggestion is to concentrated on your strengthens. Filter out the pages that are not a strong area of interest and start to work on build a campaign. I found out the hard way that Mahalo is blocking abandon and claiming cycles.My guess is that Mahalo is forcing the managers to focus on improving the view counts.

My estimates are a 1 million views will produce $1,000 in revenue. You may be able to get a higher paying click, but I doubt it.

Yes I think so, but only until the time which you're able to hand off some of the more popular pages to someone who will be able to maintain them with the same ability and regularity. Tricky, but can be done.

When I first read your question I thought that I would write and tell you what I think you should do. So I planned my answer, and now that I have logged in to answer I have changed my mind and decided that I will not tell you what you should do. Instead, I will share with you a bit of what I have been going through dealing with the same situation.

Firstly, not being "live" and meeting someone in person, just on a page, it is nearly impossible to tell what is sarcasm, what is deep offense, what is mild annoyance, what is despair and anguish etc. Just as one example because we cannot know a person and we cannot know their situation. So, one second I think, now that was sarcasm, now the next I think, no, maybe they really meant that, the next I think, boy that person sure is different than me what the heck can I say? And be helpful?

So I will talk about me instead. Who knows? The joys of flat interaction on a page with no inflection in tone...... I just went through a massive upheaval myself.

For me the most important thing was not whether anything is absolutely accurate or fast in statistics because I think they are good enough to get a general "feel" of how things are going and statistics are of limited meaning anyways in this case because they measure the past minus your future or present contribution and that could make all the difference. If your assumption is I want the very best pages and just keep them in maintenance mode and make the most money, then it makes sense to drop things for other things that may be better prospects once your indicator statistics show you that there is hardly any interest in your page by traffic and none in money. Too much for too little statistically speaking if you want the easiest option.

Some I dropped with zero income, some had some income, some had very little traffic, some had a lot, and some had for my pages massive traffic and income, so my factors that I used to make my decisions were more complex and particular to me. I had this notion, that if I could group the pages of at least two or three or larger groups, then when I come to the phase when I choose the methods of advertising and do that I am not going to be joining all individual places to toot the horn of just one page per topic.So, although I already had some pages in themes, from working with them I decided to cut some themes even if they were making me half my revenue because I am looking at the long term. How will this fit into my life, my limited time resources, what is the most efficient and effective for results, but most importantly does this fit what I can, will, want to, and are capable of doing long term?

That is, in order to make an extra few hundred dollars a year, am I going to cause myself major problems in other areas of my life? Am I going to have to be sleep deprived all the time to keep up with topics scattered all over the place? Am I going to have to cut out my own personal life?

Am I going to have to permanently cancel answering on Mahalo Answers in order to keep the pages up to the level I want to? How do I Feel about pages? Do I want to do this work?

Is it suited to my personality or am I more sutied for the Answers side of it? What would make me happier? What balance between them?

What is healthier for me? And better for them? Where can I do the most good?

Where can I make a better contribution? What percentage of each would be ideal for me? Or all of one or the other?

Can I as an individual maintain all coupon and sale pages to make money for years when I see other people taking pages for less money that make them happy, that they learn from, that help them grow as people, that bring them great joy? Do I want to make myself miserable and everyone around me to hit some imagined statistical mark? Or will no one ever remember my statistics in life but the knowledge will remain forever that I have gained, the friends I have made, the growth I have had, and the help that I have given others who have used my products?

Will I look back and regret treating myself as a statistical machine even though no human is just a machine, at least that I know of? It just happened, that I ran an experiment. I had another account also and in one account I picked things that I wanted to do for some reason, that I had an extra interest in.

In the other account I focused more on every possible statistical thought I could muster, even though I am crummy at stats. What happened, the account that was brimming with pages I loved, are being nurtured, I am getting ideas on what to do easily and quickly. The account that was statistically created based on everything I knew or could research about what would "sell" and bring in more money - that account went flat.

I had twice as much money coming into the fun account, and so I gutted the business account tossing almost everything out of it regardless of whether it was paying me money or not. I guess it depends on how you like it. If competition and numbers are your core measure of happiness and success then you would do well to act one way.

If your core measure of success is external to your own profit but involves a definition that contains what is your contribution to this life we have to others, then you need to consider that when working with what you have. Maybe I will not end up making hardly any thing at all in the Mahalo page revenue. But my measure of success Ithink unless I get so impoverished I end up starving to death of course, is that whether I did something that I could define as worthwhile to others and myself, that would be the key criteria.

So, then when the measure is internal as to how you are, and the measure is external as to how you have contributed to the world, then the exact numeric statistical measure being 100 percent accurate becomes a minor point and not very important, but then that may just be unique to how I have been seeing it, and I doubt that will ever make me a million dollars.....but what do I need more? Something that gives myself and others life or a few dollars that are sure not to make much difference in any budget if you are living in a developed nation....not sure if I am making any sense, it has been a very messy process and I am still going through it as probably it will need constant change and revision till I get it right, but that was what has been sort of going on as much as I can figure it for the moment.

With having so many pages and the new limit imposed, I can understand why it's such a hard decision! So the top 10 should be the pool you choose from to break it down to the BEST 2 you keep in the future. Keep them all right now because even though you see 35 you can get rid of......35 by $M0.40 is a good amount.

Because a penny saved is a penny earned. Until you absolutely have to get rid of them. Keep the change!

It wouldn't hurt to take maybe a weekend to go through the lot and update as much as you can so you don't feel as though you aren't keeping up. Therefore, you feel fulfilled in your duties, you make your cash, and you can make your list by what you think is the best ten. Hope this helps!

Some how I get the feeling that Mahalo 2 isn't working exactly how they thought it might.... looking at your profile page you are clearly making more from answering questions. I don't see very many pages that are actually generating any real money.... so I would hang on to them for as long as you can. It seems that the standard of making at least a page a week doesn't offer much incentive to getting the page in the best shape that you can... because after that... the question becomes what to do to make a change in it weekly?

You are lucky to have been able to acquire that many pages.... I was getting ready to add a couple of more pages when the change to only being able to claim 2 pages without permission came into effect. I was noticing the pages that I had already claimed weren't doing much.... and was taking some time thinking about what would be better choices.... only to get blinded sided by the new limit of 2 per person. Unfortunately... making even a little money to make ends meet at the new Mahalo doesn't look real promising.

I was able to make ends meet working in the Greenhouse, even when the lowered the price of each SeRP.... but I am not holding my breath here in the new Mahalo... kind of sad... because I always loved working here and doing all the research and developing new SeRPs.... Anyway... my opinion count yourself lucky and hold on to them as long as you can. Best of Luck.

I agree with the first answerer. Pages aren't really gonna make you any serious money in the long run. Just a few cents here and there.

What's more, the pages that make you money are going to be the unexpected ones (I just made 75 cents on Peak to Peak Charter School. Why? Why am I not making anything on My Touch 3g, then?

Surely it's more popular than the school. ) If you want to make money, abandon page management altogether and spend all that time (making good pages takes A LOT of time) on answers. If you're not trying to make some cash, but having fun at it, you should probably abandon about 20 of those pages anyway.

I'm not sure that it's possible to manage 35 high quality pages.

I would keep pages that are of interest to you, keeping in mind that most likely, you won't make a great deal of money on any of the pages. I am finding that working on tasks and getting best answers is much more profitable.

Although the goal is quality over quantity, if you abandon those 35 pages, with the new 2 page limit to start, all 35 pages will most likely not be managed. Maybe they will be managed eventually, but might take a while. Therefore, you updating them a little here and there might actually be adding more quality to them than having them sit there unclaimed not getting edited.

What I would suggest that you do is if you really want to abandon the pages, do not abandon all 35 at once. Post some question on here and ask if anyone is interesting in managing 2 of those pages. The abandon those two.

The pages will them be claimed and people can give quality to them. You also will make money off the them as you give them away, instead of losing them all at once, even if they aren't not making much money.

I would recommend abandoning the ones that are not making money or are uninteresting to you. Don't worry about the 2 page limit. Just request an increase and you will get more.

If you are good at managing pages, you will have no problem getting a big increase.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
