The constitution says there are things that governments do: Foreign affairs, Post office, roads, Police, Fire, Army, Education, and to some degree Transportation and Safety in general. Over the centuries, there have been a few other things added to government's responsibilities: libraries, social security, health care, to a degree, national transportation policy, etc.In short, things that can be handled better nationally than on a state-by-state basis. Along with government responsibilities, there are personal responsibilities.
And also, corporate responsibilities. To some extent, corporate responsibility is managed by regulation, since many (even most) corporations do not act in the public interest, but in their own financial interest. So I want the government to provide their constitutional services to me, and then I want them to leave me alone. I don't want a private company owning highways.
I don't want a mercenary army. I don't want the police department made up of rental cops. I don't want to pay extra for the roads I travel on- I paid for them once with my taxes.
I do think that a single payer medical insurance system would be a huge improvement over the corporate based system we have now. Even you would have to say that it is broken. The difference between us, I imagine, is that I think that the government has a role to play in funding a providing health care to all, while you probably think that the market is the optimum way to go.
I think, over and over in the last 30 years, that the market has failed us.
I want a balance in a truly compassionate society Let’s face it..the US is not a compassionate society when it comes to putting its money where its mouth is. It’s a great country if you have wealth or a good secure job. But if you have little economic contribution to make, then you are virtualy ignored except to be called a lazy bastard who thinks the work owes you a living, and you’re out to steal hard earned bucks for hard working ’real’ Americans.
And god help you if you’ve contracted a medical problem that drives you into bankruptcy. This simply doesn’t happen in any other industrialized country in the world --only in the US. It can be a cruel place if life has dealt you a crappy hand.. This country is very rich, but many priotrities are misdirected.
A country can be rich and wealthy and still take care of all of its citizens. There are many industrialized countries who do so without being labeled communists or socialists. Who’s got the best, most comprehensive medical care in the world?
Japan -- hardly a bastion of communism. Who gives its citizens a free education through university? Denmark.
Yet citizens of both countries enjoy a very high standard of living. Both are capitalist economies. There are also plenty of wealthy people in both countries.. I do think its possible to find a better, more humane balance that we have here.It doesn't have to be the black or white choice as put forth in your question..
Government Care Yes, I would like the government to take care of us in the health industry. Having to go to the doctor is very expensive. After talking with friends in Europe, you can just go in and get whatever is ailing you taken care of without worrying about insurance!
I think insurance companies here in the states are just ripping us off. Sign me up! .
Along with all that support comes a monumental price tag. Someone has to pay the bills, and that someone is us! I would much rather pay my own way and make my own decisions.
I've proven to be pretty self-sufficient so far in my 64 years and I don't need the government making decisions for me now. The end result of mega support from the government - welfare, healthcare, childcare, bailout from bad financial decisions, and on and on is that at some point those who support the government with their taxes finally cry "uncle" and go on the dole with the rest of America. At that point democracy as we know it dies. I love my country, the one I was born into, the one my forefathers created in their wisdom. It interesting to note that the writers of the Constitution call for small government and self-sufficient citizens.
We've gotten so far from those ideas and many want to take us even father. I want to see my country survive and thrive. It can do neither if there are more takers than givers. It's interesting to notice that most of the ones clammering for government programs are the ones who are doing the least to support it financially.
Wonder why? Sources: personal opinion .
I want the government to, take care of those, who can't take care of themselves so THEY will leave ME alone.. Sources: common sence..
Should we consider ourselves fortunate that Washington D.C. is snowed under and the Government will leave us alone for a.
If the U.S. ends up with government-run health care, how can we avoid results like these.
Ok... Let's put partisan politics aside and talk about issues - Health Care.
This really isn't about politics or the health care bill ... but isn't it odd that.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
