Our 2 1/2 year old dog recently became very ill and almost died. She was in the hospital several times and in the last month I haven't left her at all. I only work two days a week and my husband has been able to take her to work with him and keep her in his office on those days.
Now she is well and was home by herself for the first time since her illness. When I got home after work she was very excited but didn't calm down all night and was even up several times during the night. Leave them at home. Leaving a dog in a car for hours is animal abuse.
To even suggest that I would be abusive to my girl offends me no end. She is a beloved member of my family, I treat her like one of my kids... top notch food, all the medical care she needs, rules, adventures and all the love she can handle. That being said, there are plenty of people that crate their dogs for extensive periods of time and that is an accepted behavior.
A car is much larger than a crate. I take her lots of places with me (as long as it's not over 65 degrees outside) and she is very calm and peaceful in the car. She loves the park and the beach.
She loves to play in the back yard or with other dogs but her most favorite place to be is wherever I am. I work two days a week and send her to daycare on one of the days. This would be Mondays when she is tired from the weekend.
I want to take the absolute best care of her possible but in this case I'm not sure what that is. We have thought of getting another dog but we've got a good thing going and I don't want to rock the boat. I've seen too many people do that and it ends up being miserable for everyone.

No one accused you of being abusive to your fur kid. You asked for opinions. I gave you mine.
Thats all.
You need to leave her at home. Better yet, get her a buddy and she won't be alone. :) .
Dear Lord...Do Not ever leave an animal in a car for an extended period of time...like the lenght of a work-day! It IS animal abuse for a number of reasons - anything could happen. Getting her a buddy could very well help, but you'll need to take time to socialize them before leaving them alone together (it shouldn't take long and they may 'hit it off' right away, but they could also NOT tolerate one another, hense the socialization period)There are several 'things' you could do: Do you have a friend, family member, neighbor you could leave her with?
Could you afford to pay a dog-sitter? Could you afford a dog-care center? Your local ASAPA might have some suggestions and they have volunteers - perhaps someone there might be willing to help you as well as work with her to help her to become comfortable with being left alone for a longish period of time.
Even a pet-store might have someone, or an idea. There are a lot of animal-lovers 'out-there'...you might be able to find one who doesn't work and will dog-sit for a very resonable price - or even for free, who knows? It 'sounds' as if you little one has become accustomed to NOT being left alone because she needed that extra-care after being so ill, so she should be able to be re-trained to staying calmly alone again, you will just need to get a bit of help with it from someone.
