I would say no, not simply because they are Oscar nominated / winners. The fact that they are Oscar nominated / winners makes me aware of them and because of that awareness, I am more prone to watch those movies (obviously as opposed to movies that I do not know about) but there are a ton of Oscar movies that I haven't watched and really, a lot of movies that I've watched that have had no sort of Oscar buzz around them at all. Much like restaurants, I usually look up reviews of movies so the fact that they're Oscar nominated / winners means that there's something about the movie that's worth watching - this does tend to bias my desire to watch the movies but then again, if a friend comes up to me and says that we should watch a movie which has no chance to reach anywhere near the Oscars just because it looks amazing, I'd watch it (for example, Snakes on the Plane) I guess the complicated answer is that yes, it does influence my decision to watch them but it doesn't influence my decision 100% - I consider many other factors as well in addition to being Oscar worthy.
No, for two major reasons: - I don't follow the Oscars closely enough to really know what's getting hyped. Sure, I'll read the predictions in magazines that I read anyway, but I don't actively seek them out. It means I'm a bit clueless when the awards ceremony rolls around, but I figure most people are anyway.
- In any given year, there are very few movies that I want to see. I suppose I just have really niche tastes. It was great a few years ago when the musical craze was in high gear, but it seems to have died down, and the ones that are coming out aren't nearly as good as, say, Chicago (which got quite a few Oscar wins itself!) And then there aren't as many flowery fantasy movies.
Stardust is the only one I can remember recently. Not much else really grabs me, so I tend to stay home.
No way. I couldn't even tell you right now what movies have what nominations. I generally like to watch foreign and independent films over what's mainstream.
The message is usually better, I actually learn something and many times independent films raise awareness to issues. People totally miss out by not checking out things off the nominee list. The movie, "Water" or "Raise The Red Lantern" are simply brilliant movies.
I'd have to say - even without knowing who is up for what at the Oscars - that these two top any of them.
No. I'm not a big movie watcher, so a movie has to be very special to me for me to watch it. There are tons of Oscar winners I've never seen.
I never saw Titanic, and I never will. I never saw Saving Private Ryan, and I never will. There are some movies, I just won't watch.
The honest truth, is I could care less if they were nominated or winners of an Oscar. Up until this year, I didn't even pay attention to the Academy Awards. If I'm going to watch a movie, it won't be in a movie theater. It will be after the DVD comes out and I will watch it at home.
I only rent the movies that I've heard were good or that friends suggest. Some of the moves that win those Oscars are boring to me.
I've watched several Oscar winning movies just because they won Oscar to see what's all the fuss about: English Patient, the Hours, The American something (which was starred by Kevin Spacey). I regretted watching these movies, they are boring and pretentious. I think they're pointless too, or I'm not smart enough to get the points?
The Reader is an oscar winner too, but I couldn't make myself to watch it. I know that Life is Beautiful is a good movie, but I don't want to get depressed watching it. Come to think of it, almost all Oscar winners are depressing movies in some way.
Now I hardly watch movies anymore and prefer serials such as House or Glee. They are much more entertaining.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
