I'm lucky, I live in Toronto and attend it's amazing film festival every September. So I've seen 39 of the 41 nominated, except for the doc "Waste Land" and "Country Strong" which haven't opened everywhere yet. Bonus: the Social Network the King's Speech Inception I Am Love In a Better World Bonus Q2: "the Fighter" (way overrated, should've been called the Fighter's White Trash Family) It just doesn't stand up compared to "Raging Bull", "Rocky", "the Wrestler", "Million Dollar Baby" or "Cinderella Man".
Bonus Q3: I can't wait to see "Waste Land". All the other nominated docs are outstanding. Bonus Q4: The documentary category was very strong this year, and left out were "Client 9: the Rise and Fall of Elliot Spitzer" and "the Tillman Story" about Pat Tillman, the NFL'er who left a lucrative contract offer in order to fight overseas, but who was killed in a friendly-fire incident that the gov't tried to cover-up.
In the fiction section, "Never Let Me Go" is a movie I thought for sure would have been nominated for at least one category, because it's just the kind of movie the Academy typically likes, but it flew under the radar this past year and got written off as too depressing I guess, which is not fair, since sad and depressing are too very different things, and oh, what a sad movie it is, but what a wonderful movie, too. And I also agree with you on "Somewhere", which was terrific and even more lonely than "Lost in Translation" because in "Somewhere", that actor has lost the ability to feel pleasure altogether.
Alice in Wonderland * BLACK SWAN * THE FIGHTER * Iron Man 2 * THE KING'S SPEECH * 127 HOURS * Salt * THE SOCIAL NETWORK * The Town * TRUE GRIT * Unstoppable BQ: 1. The King's Speech 2. The Fighter 3.
127 Hours 4. Unstoppable 5. Iron Man 2 BQ2: The Town BQ3: Tangled, Rabbit Hole and Somewhere (dislike her works, but don't wanna miss any) BQ4: I Love You Phillip Morris is the best movie of all released in 2010 in my book Kick-@ss Robin Hood I liked it better than Gladiator - no idea why Gladiator gets so much praise while this one only oblivion Conviction - great idea and best female performance of the year - Juliette Lewis Unthinkable - quite a powerful thing, the Academy is way too sensitive, apparently, or it's just an average movie, oh, wait, but that didn't stop the Academy from putting True Grit on, I also don't get what a horror thriller wannabe is doing among Best Picture nominees as well.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
