Masons go way back in my family. My father was a Mason, my mother was Eastern Star, and I and my sisters were all Job's Daughters. How about you?

Grampa My dad's dad was a Mason, primarily because he was a local businessman and the local lodge was where a lot of the deals happened (all of the business owners, local bankers, and similar were members in Sioux Falls). The tradition wasn't passed on at all, because he died when my father and his brothers were teens. I know my grandmother is still in touch with some of his lodge brothers, as family friends.

My father was a Mason and my mother an Eastern Star. I also had several aunts and uncles who were members. My mother just got her fifty-year membership certificate from the Eastern Star last week in fact.

I have been an active Mason for years although ill health has forced me to cut way back. I am a Past Master of my local lodge as was my dad. I am a six time Past Patron in the Eastern Star and my wife has been Worthy Matron three times and we have both served on Grand Chapter committees.

I am a Past President of my local Shrine Club and have served on the Board of Directors for the East Tennessee Shrine Temple. I belong to the York Rite Bodies and am just finishing my term as the Master of one of the Scottish Rite Bodies in our area and I edit the Scottish Rite newsletter. I am a 33rd degree Mason and I belong to the Royal Order of Scotland and the Royal Order of Jesters along with several other bodies. My father is buried in the Masonic section of a cemetery and my mother will be there also.

When I was little the Eastern Star ladies would take turns cleaning up the lodge hall and sometimes mom took me with her and all of that stuff in there just fascinated me no end. Sources: my life .

1 Yes, my father was a mason. He died last year and we did a service at the masons lodge. We had bury him in his apron and then he was cremated.

There were some other things we turned in to the Masons upon his death. Neither my mother or my siblings were inducted. My dad was a pretty private guy but the Masons were helpful to my mom after my father's death.

I'm looking to volunteer and am wondering what organizations are out there...

What is a simple and practical book for strategic planning for nonprofit organizations.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
