Does anyone else find it odd that there's been a coup in Honduras and yet Billy Mays is occupying three of the trending topics?

If you look at it from a certain perspective, it isn't odd at all. How much of my mind share has Honduras ever really taken up? Now, how much has Billy Mays taken up?!

That explains it for me!

Same goes for the other celebrities dying this week. Old news. Even the war is old news of the day.

Not fair. Not appropriate. The world hears and sees what they want to see.

TUNNEL VISION!

I wish I could say that I did find it odd, but I consider this absolutely business as usual. It's even become institutionalized, with negative press releases for both corporations and government coming out on Friday afternoon because they know the story will get buried. Traditional news outlets are dying.

Newspapers are expensive, wasteful of resources and inconvenient. Radio and TV ownership has been consolidated under a diminishing number of people, with cost cutting for shareholder bottom line. Cancelling weekend news was part of this trend.

For hard-core newsies, new media is taking over. People are listening to blogs, Twitter, and finding other ways of getting the information they want. True, Billy Mays is a leading trending topic, which I attribute to shock value.

But I found out about - and have been watching - the coup via Twitter and FriendFeed as well. It's going to be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
