Does anyone else think the prices of children's toys are outrageous especially considering how they are made?

I seems that toys are more and more expensive and this is true even for those that have been cheaply made. Yet, all these toys are highly advertised so that children think that they just have to have it. Why don't educational toy manufacturers advertise this heavily?

The bottom line is that prices are set because people are willing to pay that much People are willing to pay almost anything to make their kids happy, so toymakers set their prices as high as they can. Yeah, it's highway robbery, but as long as we're willing to pay they have no incentive to lower prices. I grew up poor and the toys I remember really enjoying most of all were sticks that I fashioned into guns and other pieces of crap that didn't cost anything.

But we've brainwashed our children into thinking they have to have the "it" toy, and marketers have brainwashed us into thinking we have to buy the "it" toy or our kids won't love us. It's a scam, but we fall for it. Sources: My Opinion .

They are really expensive, but kids are not guilty for this... Toy manufaturers and advertisers have in their minds kids and parents. Don't believe that they will price or advertise anything if parents will not be willing to pay these prices. In today's society parents normally are older (less patience) and busier (spend less time with their kids) so they are willing to pay expensive toys to compensate for the lack of time or patience with kids.

Additionally, in the same way that toys for adults (such as iPod) cost more than $200 it doesn't seem expensive a $100 toy for a kid. About educational toys, it's sad but for educational toy manufacturers it doesn't make sense to advertise heavily as they know that they comete in a niche market vs a mass market. Not too many parents are interested in educational toys in the same way that not too many adults are interested in reading good books vs watching reality shows on TV.

Specially in this days, regardless the price of your kid's toys focus on the value of giving and how special and fortunate they are for having parents that can afford to buy some toys for them.

Yes and no. You can get those normally outrageously priced toys for a decent price, if you find the right stores/sales/discounts. Never, ever pay full retail for anything if you can avoid it.

I have a tendency to look for toys that are as far under "normal" price as possible. The educational toy manufacturer's DO advertise just as heavily. I know that I've seen so many VSmile and LeapFrog product commercials lately, that I'm tired of them.

The really great toys from when I was a kid.. some are still around, and they aren't as advertised, if at all, but even those toys that we remember are more cheaply made than they were before. It's just the way they do things nowadays. I know what you mean, though.It would be great for kids to go back to simplicity.

I mean, whatever did kids do back in the 1800's when there were no Barbies or GI Joes or Hotwheels or Bratz dolls? They played with rag dolls, sticks, and puppets, etc.They were all handmade and when they were given these toys, it was like GOLD to them, because they actually APPRECIATED them! .

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
