Does anyone else's cat just lick up the gravy/jelly from canned food and leave the bits?

I feed my cat dry food mostly, but give her 1/2 or 1/3 of a can of wet cat food everynight too. If I give her the kind that is "carvings" or "nibbles" in gravy, she just licks up the gravy off of every bit first, and then maybe comes back later and eats some of the bits. If I give her the kind that is just a chunk of mashed up stuff, then she eats the chunks that have the gelatinous juices from the can stuck to them, and leaves the other chunks, maybe coming back to eat some of them later.

If she didn't like the taste of the bits or the chunks themselves, I don't understand why she comes back to eat some of them later, instead of eating her dry food later. If she likes them, I don't understand why she ignores them or works around them to go after the gravy or jelly in the first place. Is my cat just weird, or do other cats do this too? Cheap food When I feed my cats cheap food (store brand or cheesy grocery store brand), they lick the juices off and ignore the meat. When I feed them more expensive "premium" canned food, they eat every bite. I can only guess that all the flavor in those inexpensive foods is in the juice.

I stopped buying those foods, because even though they are cheap, they get wasted. Of course, you didn't say what brand you fed your cats, but this is my experience with "lickers". My mom's Siamese cat has similar tastes, licking cheap food and eating expensive food.

Yes and yes. Laughing out loud. My old cat has always done this; I have no idea why.

First thing goes the gravy; he comes back later and snacks on the half dried up bits. I explain it by saying, Yes, cats are just weird. Not just your cat--all of ’em!

As long as the behavior does not concern me--ie, possibly health related, I don’t try to figure the cats out anymore. I just roll with their peccadilloes. Sources: Cats are funny!

Yes, a very annoying habit for an otherwise perfect cat My Alpha cat Theodore has a similar habit, only he just wants the gravy from pouch food leaves the rest, then goes to the Iams or Science diet dry food to satisfy his appitite. My other cats will not eat the "used" food, so it goes on the patio for the stray/neighbor cat who comes by later to see what leftovers are available. I know I could eliminate this behavior and just not serve the pouch to him, but then who has NOT spoiled a cat?.

Mine too! Both of my cats do this, and I chalk it up to preference. I have my own way of eating burritos, omelets, eggs & toast, pizza, etc.I think that my cats just have their own preferences as well.

They like the gravy the best, so they eat it first. Then later when they are hungry again and what is in the dish is leftovers, they eat it. Cats are people too!

Nope---we have one of those too! Which explains why our other one is getting so fat! Our baby boy licks off all the goo & leaves it.

S sis isn't really into the goo, so she'll follow behind him and eat his chunks while he switches places and sucks up the gravy from hers. Eventually, he will come back and eat whatever she's left behind for him--which usually isn't much, little oinker.

Need food suggestions to give to dogs & cats instead of canned food.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
