Does anyone have a good recipe for a chicken stew?

Minnesota is going to be unbelievably cold for this time of year over the weekend. As much as I hate the cold (yet I still live here!), the weather makes me hungry for those "comfort food" recipes. What I have in mind is something, either stove-top or slow cooker (although I'd prefer a slow cooker recipe) that's like chicken and dumplings - but without the dumplings.

The main ingredients I can handle; I'm figuring to use chicken, potatoes, green beens, carrots, peas, etc.But I need a sauce that'll turn into a good, thick chicken gravy by the time the recipe is done. One that doesn't look or taste like it's been thickened heavily with flour - it should taste like gravy. Does anyone have any recipes?

Internet links are fine, but I'm looking for recipes that you've already tested and made. Thanks in advance! Asked by MidwestPurgatory 51 months ago Similar questions: recipe chicken stew Food & Drink > Cooking.

Slow Cooker Chicken Stew - I tried this one, and it's yum! 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces1 lb boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-size pieces2 cups mushrooms, halved (I like crimini)2 cups water1 cup frozen small whole onions (or 3/4 cup chopped onion)1 cup celery, sliced, 1/2 inch slices1 1/2 cups carrots, thinly sliced1 teaspoon paprika (make sure to use good quality paprika for full flavor! )1/2 teaspoon salt, to taste1 teaspoon dried rubbed sage1/2 teaspoon dried thyme1/2 teaspoon pepper, freshly ground, to taste14 1/4 ounces chicken broth6 ounces tomato paste1/2 cup water or low sodium chicken broth or vegetable broth3 tablespoons cornstarch2 cups frozen green peas 1.

Combine first 14 ingredients in an electric slow cooker. 2. Cover with lid and cook on high setting for 4 hours or until carrot is tender.3.

Combine the water and cornstarch in a small bowl, stirring with a whisk until blended. 4. Add cornstarch mixture and frozen peas to the slow cooker, stir well.5.Re-cover and cook on high-heat setting an 30 additional minutes.

Chicken Henry - not quite a stew, but delicious and filling. This isn't quite what you ask for, but try it and I think you'll forgive me. It's an intuitive's recipe, so quantities aren't exact, but as it tastes even better when cooled and warmed up I'd make a big, big bucket thereof.

Step One: make a big chicken risotto as you usually would, making sure to include plenty of mushrooms. Put it into a casserole - it should fill about threequarters. Step Two: make a standard bechamel sauce and then stir into it some chopped Port Salut cheese. It has to be Port Salut - it comes in wedges with a bright orange coating, which you slice off.

It's then quite soft and will melt easily. I would use two wedges to a pint of sauce, but as you make it again and again yu'll get to judge what you like. Step Three: pour the cheese sauce into the risotto and stir so it makes a nice gloppy mix.

Cook in a medium oven for roughly as long as you like, but when it's done it'll have a cheesy crust on the top and also on the sides of the dish (people fight over these bits). If you really like this, you'll realise that you can make it all in one pot. I hope you like it.

My stepmom's chicken soup recipe Boil chicken ahead of time, usually I do all this on the stove, but crock pot works great too. Add in all veggies to crock pot, I use carrots, celery, mushrooms, black olives, peas, potatoes.....of course, add potatoes toward end of cooking so they are not too soft. I also use rice, a mix of wild rice and regular white rice.

One can cream of chicken soup, one can of cream of mushroom soup, then add broth from the cooked chicken and water as needed. Amounts vary depending on the size of the crock pot. Season as desired, I like season salt or garlic pepper.

Also, I have a cookbook for crock pot reicipes from Betty Crocker. If you can find it, there are wonderful recipes such as Dill Turkey Chowder and Sweet Potato & Lentil Stew. They are wonderful in the winter months.

I'm cooking a lamb stew and just realised that the meat I browned is coated with self raising flour. Is the stew ruined.

Does anyone have a great recipe on cooking a nice dinner with Pork.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
