Cidade de Deus My favorite portuguese-speaking movie is Cidade de Deus (2002), or "City of God" by Fernando Meirelles! You should have no worry to find a version with english subtitles. IMDB have a list of portuguese-speaking movies, that you can order by votes : imdb.com/Sections/Languages/Portuguese/a... They are not easy to find on DVD however... Central Station (in Portuguese with English sub-titles) is one of my favorite movies. It is about Dora, a bitter retired schoolteacher played by the great Brazilian actress Fernanda Montenegro. Dora writes letters for illiterate people at the central railroad station in Rio de Janeiro and never mails them.

After his mother - one of her customers - dies in a car accident, she decides to help a young boy locate his father somewhere in the northeast region of Brazil. Their journey to this remote region changes both of their lives. Central Station was nominated for an academy award for Best Foreign Film in 1999.

City of God This is a movie from 2002 set in Rio de Janeiro in the 60s. I just saw it recently and thought it was good. It is over 2 hours though so that might be rather long for a party... Hope this helps.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
