Does anyone make a disk drive that can read old 5.25 inch floppy disks and works with Windows 98SE?

Found a bunch of old 5.25 inch floppies. Would like to see what I had on them and transfer if possible. Asked by MacGyver 49 months ago Similar questions: make disk drive read 25 inch floppy disks works Windows 98SE Computers > Hardware > Desktops & Laptops.

Teac, IBM, Fujitsu, HP, DEC, Toshiba, ... Used to make them. They are not really made anymore, since they're an obsolete technology, and you'll need to order it -- your local supermarket won't have them. I would recommend finding someone's used drive on eBay; you can probably find entire used Win '98 systems with the old drives for ~$50.

On the other hand, there do still seem to be drives available for 720k/1.2mb 5.25" diskettes google.com/products?q=1.2mb+floppy+drive... .

You need to get a PCI card called "Catweasel mk4 Plus" made by a German Company called "Individual Computers" (see Wikipedia). It can then directly connect to and control old 3.5" and 5.25" floppy drives. The Catweasel firmware can be updated to read any type of 5.25" disk (i.e.

Apple, Amiga, Commodore 64, DOS, etc) in Windows or Linux. Using free software/drivers you'll be able to make a disk image of the 5.25" floppies and then discard the old disks. The Catweasel card does not fit into a PCIe slot so you may also need a "StarTech PEX1PCI1" or "PCIe2PCI" Adapter Card if you have a newer motherboard.

This is a very GEEKY product, so you better be an advanced computer user to get the drivers working. Others report that they are only able to read disks and not write to them. Otherwise, go and buy an old computer with a 5.25" disk drive controller.Org/wiki/CatWeasel#MK4.

Try searching for any of these: "Catweasel mk4 Plus", "FC5025 Floppy Controller", or "Kyroflux" .

I'm pretty sure that no one makes a 5.25 floppy drive any more, but I have one! It's been a while since I booted the machine that it was in, but it was working the last time I booted it. Depending on how the floppies were stored, they may have deteriorated beyond the point of being readable..

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
