Does History Really Repeat Itself or are we the history that refuses to change?

I think it is correct to say, that at different times within a given place, one can notice certain, repeating political, cultural, social, and economic patterns, sometimes. It seems to me that the notion that "history repeats itself," or "Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it," are one-liners. One has to be careful about putting too much stock in one-liners.It's like Joe Friday's famous "Just the facts, M'am," from Dragnet.

That character said that line one time in one episode. But it obviously had staying power. The line became iconic.

Also, there is the obvious problem that two intelligent, reasonable people can interpret "history" in two different ways. Are the patterns worth repeating, if that is possile? Or, should the patterns not be repeated, if it could be avoided?

This is my personal opinion:The only reason why it's called 'story repeating' is because we are reacting the same way again. Until we learn and change the way we react to a certain situation, we'll find ourselves in the same situation over and over again. Sometimes, we really need to change; either better or back to who we used to be.

Recently, I told a friend this: God must be looking at me and shaking his head, waiting patiently for me to get it right. And when I do, He would sigh and say,"Finally, now you can move to the next level.

It does not change for two reasons. For one thing, those who understand history well enough to see parallels of the past and present usually benefited from the so-called previous mistakes and so do not want change. Everyone else is simply too ignorant of history to be objective.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
