Explain your answer. I feel it is completely annoying when people say happy holidays instead of Merry Christmas. Christmas is the name of the holiday and I intend to keep saying Merry Christmas, until they officially change the name of from Christmas to Holiday.
I really can't understand how it would offend someone of a different religion than Christianity. All religions I've ever heard of teach in understanding, and being accepting of those who are of different religion, race, or sex. I think if you're that easily offended when someone says Merry Christmas than you will find a reason to get offended off anything, and that's just not a healthy way to live.

No. I don't see the point in getting offended when someone is already attempting not to offend you. If you get offended by someone saying "Happy Holidays", how is that better than someone who gets offended if you say "Merry Christmas"?
And for the record, I'm pretty sure the phrase "Happy Holidays" wasn't invented to placate those who might be offended by the mention of Christmas- years ago it was simply a convenient phrase to use to refer to both Christmas and New Years and the days in between. I tend to say "Merry Christmas" to most people. Sometimes they say, "I'm Jewish, but thanks!" or something like that, and then I say, "Well Happy Chanukah then!
" and we smile and that's that. Never in my life have I actually encountered someone who became visibly offended by "Merry Christmas", but I suppose it could happen. I think the point here is that it's the thought that counts.

I am appalled! I am appalled with the mentality some people have. If they are offended by someone saying Merry Christmas in a joyful manner I don't want them in this country.Do you?
Nobody is oppressing them and telling them how to think and celebrate why should they tell us how to think. The minority ruling the majority that's crazy. Some people will say well they are a part of the U.S. And have a right to their beliefs too and they would be right.
But, they do not have the right to silence me and keep us from celebrating freely a national holiday in our country. This country belongs to all of us and they have to put up with me just as I put up with them and their different beliefs. They want equality by keeping us from believing in something, not me, not ever.
A nation has the right to stand for something. It is not national policy to say Merry Christmas it is our choice, and they need to respect that..
I could be totally wrong here but.... I was always under the impression that the 'holidays' signified the combination of Christmas and New Years. I also thought that when someone offered the greeting of Happy Holidays, maybe this was their chance to abbreviate it all instead of having to say "Merry Christmas and have a happy New Years" all at the same time in the same breath. I doubt if they meant to replace, overshadow, or diminish the significance of the word Christmas with the word Holiday.
Once again, this is only a guess from me and I could be way off the mark but I gave it a shot.
Duh. There are more holidays in dec. Than just xmas.
What I find annoying is people like you who have to have everything THEIR way, and insist on everyone else doing everything THEIR way. Actually christmas has been changed to "day of the feast of st. Soul brother #1.

I honestly do NOT see what difference it makes what word someone uses to widh you happiness...for pete's sake accept whatever term people WANT to use at face value. America is NOT about Christmas...America was founded on freedom OF religion...any religion.....not everyone celebrates the traditional ways that your family does....and if you want to get deeply technical....the tradition of Christmas was established in the 4th century by Christians, before that, the winter tradition was known as Yule or Yuletide. So to everyone out there....celebrate the way you see fit and express yourself in whatever way you see fit...
I am 42 years old, and since I was born all I can remember is Merry Christmas. America is about Christmas. The reason they have Black Friday is because people are buying gifts because of Christmas.
America is becoming a weak. Who care where you are from, if you have a different religion or are from another country and decide to come to this country, then you have to assimilate to this country, USA. Christmas is not about religion, its about a time in the month of December when people are more giving and cheerful. No one give a crap about all those other "so called holidays".
Those holidays come and go, and no one cares. This is America and its always been about Merry Christmas. Lets get some balls America and say Merry Christmas.
I refuse to say Merry Christmas, not for religious reasons, but because I remember what Santa Clause represents, what the cartoons during Christmas mean, rudolph, santa, and all the lights and Christmas trees. What should we stop selling Christmas trees now? Get a grip people, this is not about religious tradition, this is about AMERICAN!
TRADITION.
Explain your answer. " "what exactly sparked the whole having to say happy holidays anyway? " "HAPPY HOLIDAYS" ..........?" "Happy Holidays, Everyone!" "Happy Holidays (Sorry Billo).
Merry CHRISTmas and Happy Holidays to each and everyone.....
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
