Does olive oil make your puppy go pee?

S urinating doesn't have anything to do with the oil And you're right, the oil will help his skin. It could be a Urinary Tract Infection (called a UTI). Symptoms are the pup drinks lots of water and pee's all over the place.

You need to get a urine sample and take it to the vet. The sample needs to be fresh as it's starts to crystallize almost immediately. How do you get the sample?

Well, if he lifts his leg it's easy. Just catch some in a little plastic container that you don't want anymore. You know the ones.

We get Cole slaw or potato salad in them and save them for whatever reason. If he is to young to lift his leg, which is perfectly normal, then get a saucer and slide it under his little butt. You don't need that much, just enough for them to put a strip in it to look for infection.

Pour it from the saucer into that plastic container and off to the vet you go.

1 I'm not sure the inappropriate urination is related to the olive oil; I would suspect the olive oil, if you had said your puppy was having diarrhea. He could have a urinary tract infection, especially if he is going small amounts frequently, and/or is straining or crying when he urinates. I would suggest that, at the least, you call the vet's office, and run it by him/her.

Or take him in to be checked out. If your puppy does have a UTI, or even a bladder or kidney stone, he could be in a lot of pain. And if he does have a stone, and becomes blocked, so that he can't urinate, that requires immediate, emergency treatment, or he can die!

Not trying to scare you, but just want you to realize that no one here is going to be able to diagnose this problem for you. You need expert advice, from your vet. BTW, what kind of skin condition were you trying to treat/prevent with olive oil?

I have not heard of giving dogs olive oil, but maybe I know a lot more about cats than dogs. If you came up with that on your own, I would suggest you run that by your vet, as well. :) Some things that are fine, even beneficial, for humans, can be toxic to dogs, like chocolate and grapes.

3 The only place I have heard about this olive oil thing is online. I would say if you want the dog to have a good coat/skin you should be feeding him omega fatty acid food supplements purchased from the vet. I don't see why olive oil would ever help a dog's coat, considering it does not contain any fatty acids.

If he is showing uncharacteristic urination you need to get him to the vet immediately. Any number of things could be wrong. If it is a urinary tract infection it is very important that it is treated as soon as possible so that it doesn't spread to the kidneys.
