There is no food which would CAUSE high blood pressure. However, if you are "salt sensitive", salty foods may aggravate high blood pressure. Not all people with high blood pressure (BP) are "salt sensitive".

Anyone with high blood pressure should stay away from all salty foods until conferring with their medical doctor. Most people who have had high BP for any length of time have been receiving treatment from a doctor and have been told what to avoid - caffeine, fatty foods, smoking, alcohol, etc. Naturally, it is safer to avoid salty foods than to take a chance. Salty foods provide no health benefits - there is plenty of "hidden" salt in our everyday food, like canned soups, vegetables, frozen dinners, etc. A surprising amount, if you read the labels.

A doctor will generally tell a patient with high BP how much salt is allowable per day. Now, if a patient is not affected by salt, the doctor may relax these rules. That, however, is NEVER up to the patient, only the doctor can make such a judgment.

Gh BP has often been called the "silent killer" as people don't always recognize or feel the symptoms until they have a life-threatening event such as a heart attack. If you are asking this question because you or someone you know has high BP (or suspect so) and is NOT under the treatment of a doctor, then get yourself to a doctor ASAP and get this checked out. You can go to any fire station and a fireman will take your BP free, on the spot, too, if you have to wait a few days to get a doctor's appt.

Do NOT delay. This is a very serious health concern. Your life or whomever you are asking for - their life - could depend upon it.
