The swine flu virus can affect anyone of any age, although, teenagers are in a group that is especially prone to catching the A-H1N1/09 Pandemic Flu. It is not entirely known why the largest percentage of those infected are around the age of 19, but it is being closely studied to try to determine this. Luckily, although they are often infected, they usually recover without serious complications unless they have underlying chronic diseases like asthma or immune disorders. It will be important for teenagers to know and observe all safety precautions for avoiding getting the flu, especially during school and college terms now in the Northern Hemisphere.
