Having been involved in YAP for quite a few years, with poetry my strongest passion, I've come to know, as "poets" we either learn and grow, or we die with our efforts. Critique is valid, for any; experienced, proficient, even prolific, as long as it isn't meant to insult the author. Is everything everyone presents, world class?
Of course not, but I have learned, perhaps especially for "newbie" wanna be poets, encouragement is far better than discouragement. Should we offer suggestions about structure / form, style, meter, punctuation, EWD? Yes I think that's valid.
To tear someone down for their own method of expression is hardly a way to help anyone make an effort to improve.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
