My baby's head is lopsided and the ears as well because he only sleeps on his left. We tried putting him on the other end of the crib so he has to turn to the right to see his toys, but to no avail. The doctor said it will probably correct itself now that he spends less time on his back and that we can wait 3 months for the 9 months appointment to see if it's better and then discuss the options.
Did anyone have or is having the same problem? If so, what did you do about it? Asked by lajoopya 55 months ago Similar questions: parents baby lopsided head sleeping side Family.

This is actually quite common. First, welcome to motherhood! It is quite common to see "lopsided" heads in infants and the usual reason is just what your Doctor described.
All babies have a series of "fissures" (called sutures) that traverse the skull. There is one that runs down the middle of the skull (front to back) and two others that bisect this one (one in front and one in back) which allow for normal brain growth. These sutures essentially divide your babies skull into semi-mobile plates which can move or mold to the pressure applied.
If your baby favors one side during sleeping it could cause these somewhat mobile and malleable plates to accomodate the persistent pressures. As your babies sleeping preferences change his head should return to a more normal shape. In the meantime I’d try not to worry....unless your husband has a "lopsided" head.

1 jo1980, regarding your answer "This is actually quite common. ": thanks. So did you experience the same thing?
I know that all babies heads are like that at first, but he's already 6 months old and really only sleeps on his left side. I guess I'll just stop worrying until the doctor sees him again when he's 9 months old.

2 lajoopya, yes, one of my daughters had this for awhile and it slowly went away. I was concerned too. The only type of "lopsided" skulls that are truly concerning are the ones that look too long or too short.
This is secondary to one or more of the sutures I described fusing prematurely (called craniosynostosis...boy what a mouthful). This can be diagnosed or excluded with plain x-rays of the skull or sometimes a CAT scan. I'm sure your Doctor knows this and isn't concerned.
I think my daughter's skull was fairly normal by 8 months....but that's been quite a few years ago. Glad I helped some. Jo .

3 my daughter had one side of her head that was flatter than the other. I tried to convince myself that she had it since birth, but it was from us putting her down on the same side and not giving her enough tummy time. Her neck also was slightly shortened on that side (I can't recall the name of the condition).
The doctor even had her get a CAT scan (as jo mentioned), but everything was okay. We resolved her issues by putting her to sleep on both sides (we tried to rotate) and also by giving her lots of tummy time. There are sleep positioners that you can buy if your baby isn't staying on the side he needs to be.
I'd also recommend a good chiropractor. Mine helped my baby's head by adjusting her back and also by putting gentle pressure in just the right spot. He was very careful and is an excellent chiropractor.
Hope this helps! Good luck! .

Th72, I think perhaps your baby could have been with it. My son did, I learned that some times the head can be molded mishapen in the "birth cannal" because of the pressure and the way the babys head is postioned. In my case they use a vaccum to help him out of me, and in turn case him to have a little bump and misshaped his head and cause him to want to turn his head to one side. This is still called postional molding, like it would be if the lopsidedness was caused by sleeping too much one side or for sleeping on his/her back too much etc.
Can a baby have different blood type then parents.
Can I evict a family member from my parents home even if they live with my parents.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
