Personally, I prefer my elected representatives to deal with items I cannot solve. Being more "Republican" minded, I prefer to take care of things I am able to deal with, and to the suggested "problem," I am able to not only mute the commercial but turn off the TV altogether! But better yet, we now have Verizon's FiOS which includes DVR technology, so we merely record the program and zip over the commercials (so that's what they sound like.) .

1 Whatever. The actual work of Congress is accomplished by people working in committees. Not all of it is earth-shaking.

2 He! Yeah. I have been annoyed by this for years.

I change channels so fast it would make your head spin. Plus I hate commercials. So I DVR a lot of stuff and FF thru the commercials.

That's what they get for harassing us consumers all these years! I pay some $70/MO for satellite TV and I resent the paid programming and commercials very much. So...commercials are banned at my house!

3 The real problem with this legislation is that "louder" is actually harder to measure than you'd think. It's an auditory phenomenon, not an acoustic one. That is, it's as much about your ears and the way you perceive sound as about the actual amount of energy going out of the speakers.

This sort of thing shouldn't require Congressional intervention. The regulatory agencies usually handle it. But the FCC declined to regulate it, since they couldn't find a good definition of "loud" that they could hold people to.

The current bill doesn't actually resolve those problems. It just orders the FCC to come up with something. The actual legislation is only a page long, so it's not a major effort for Congress to read it and vote on it.

The actual details are left up to the regulatory body who should have dealt with it in the first place.

4 This is exactly what they should be working on. If they stick to these types of issues they can't do much damage. Stay out of the subjects they obviously know nothing about.

If Obama is defeated in 2012 and the Republicans are in charge of Congress again, will they produce a health care plan.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
