Freedom of speech? Freedom of information? NOT?

NOT! Some of you probably remember the other day someone put up a link about Sarah Palin and within just a few minutes, the link had disappeared. Less than an hour ago, my friend sent me this, about when Palin was Mayor and the stuff she did.

Of particular concern was her fiscal policy. So, I fwded it to a couple friends, and WITHIN the hour, somehow, mysteriously, the account has been suspended! IMAGINE THAT! thepresidentialcandidates.us/about-sarah... Olympic athletes much?

Holy Carp! Lars, that is scary. I wonder if we are underestimating the lengths that this campaign will go to, to suppress information.

Now I’m a bit surprised that my AV question about Cindy’s drug use, and McCain’s drug policies has stayed up (yes, I do see a relevant connection, and it’s not Cindy bashing, since I personally do not advocate the drug policies that McCain endorses and champions). Apparently AV isn’t on "their" radar yet. I wonder for how long.

Big Brother is watching, and we should all be very concerned about the degree to which they are monitoring us: our internet use, and our cell phones, especially. While these technologies have been incredible boons to all of us in global connectivity - that connectivity runs the other way, too. 9/11 gave governments the world over the excuse they’d been looking for to more closely monitor citizens: national security.

Just recently we were advised by a person in the military that because of the nature of one of the projects we’re working on, we need to extra careful about our cell phone conversations and internet use. That’s a bit troubling to me, because I wish to exercise my freedom of expression, but I’m being warned that there may be consequences to that expression. Also, in our work we sell technology to the "lawful intercept" sector, and let me tell you, that business is booming.

You are right to be concerned about this essential American freedom being threatened. Unless more people wake up and fight for this right, we’ll wake up to find that it’s gone. Sources: Goldie .

3 The Web is not a freedom-of-speech issue. You can post whatever you like, as long as you pay for it to be carried. It's up to the web site host to determine what gets put up there, and they have an equal right to take down anything they like.

The Nation has a web site that they pay for and they're perfectly permitted to put the article up, and nobody has a legal right to say otherwise. I can't even tell from here exactly what was suspended. The entire site "thepresidentialcandidates.us" was URL2 may have had nothing to do with the article in question.

It could be anything from nonpayment to exceeding traffic to illegal gambling. Or maybe "bluehost" is run by a Republican who hates anything Democratic and wrote it into their terms of service. But this country still has freedom of speech, as The Nation is busy demonstrating.

4 I read the article - thanks for bringing this up and posting it. I also read the comments, and found three issues that I had not yet heard. Does anyone know if these are true?4.

Palin fires police chief of Wassila because he wants the bars to close at 2am rather than 5am and this upset Palin's bar owner campaign contributors6. Palin's car wash was "involuntarily" shut down after she skipped out of paying her taxes and fees, and failed to file required financial statements. 7.

Palin's pastor of 30 years thinks political opponents of Bush won't go to heaven and that Jesus is some kind of war general that kills people that don't believe in him. 11. Palin inflates her foreign policy experience by claiming a refueling stop as a "visit to Ireland".

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
