Wow! ** It would look just like TODAY! Because TODAY is all I have. It's here now and I'm going to sit in this seat, with my feet on the hard boards of the floor, let my fingers dance across the keyboard, and look at the forest around my house through the window and be in the NOW.

Today. My 'good as it gets' is NOW! Ciao1 .

For me, very much what it looks like right now For me, Alaska has been paradise. While life here certainly isn't simple or easy, it really is "as good as it gets. " Let me explain... As I sit here typing, gazing out my kitchen window thru the arched doorway from the living room, a see a majestic mountain peak rising before me.

Right now it's starkly outlined against the sky, sort of an 'in your face' kinda day, the white snow glistening like crystals on it, the brilliant blue sky acting as a backdrop. Last night, that same mountain peak was bathed in pink, an effect that gives it an almost otherworldly look, while other times it gives meaning to "purple mountain majesty," which I never fully understood till I came to Alaska for the first time in 2000. I've heard mountains compared to stepping stones to Heaven and, in truth, I can understand why.

If I were to change locations, depending upon which direction I looked, I'd still be seeing mountains, some more hidden behind trees than others, but a mountain landscape surrounds me. It's this way in most of Alaska. I've never failed to catch my breath when driving up the highway northward, I crest the top of a hill and Denali (Mt.

McKinley to those of you who live elsewhere) pops into view. It isn't visible all the time, making it all the more awe inspiring, even when you've seen the same sight hundreds of times before. Mountains that appeared grand only hours before are now dwarfed, looking like footstools against Denali as a backdrop.

Toss in the various lighting effects Mother Nature provides and it really is as good as it gets, especially if you happen to be near a lake with this same scene reflected back at you. Moose in the front yard? Got 'em, tho' gotta admit, I'm glad I've yet to see a grizzly visiting.

There are some Alaska things I'd just as rather not experience, thank you. Eagles fly overhead on a regular basis, flowers burst from what was once a frozen landscape that seemed to host only snow and ice days before, it's all part and parcel of life in Alaska. People you've never met become instant friends, opening more opportunities to you.

Have you ever stood on a frozen river and watched two eagles soar overhead? Ridden behind a team of sled dogs? Stood under the Northern Lights, swearing you could hear it crackle, spinning in delight as you turn to try to take it all in.

That's Alaska, my chosen home. I might also add that part of Alaska's allure is its acceptance of all kinds. While I clean up good, I'd have to say that the "as good as it gets" aspect of dressing for Alaska would be the chance to lounge in the softness and warmth of fleece clothing, snug as a bug in front of the fireplace, tho' knowing if I venture out, the Lights might be dancing for me at night or that other adventures await me during the day.

That's life and it is as good as it gets with the endless possibilities to experience Mother Nature at her best.
