1996, when I passed on a 2BR condo with roofdeck in Boston I had a chance to buy a 2BR condo with full roofdeck in a brownstone in Boston's historic South End. The neighborhood was definitely turning around and the location was great (near a park and many restaurants). Those places now go for 3 to 4 times what I could have purchased it for, back then..
I do go back often in my mind. I would go back to the day in 2004 that we first met our daughters in Kazakhstan. I replay that moment often in my head... The anticipation we had was almost unbearable.
We had been staring at their pictures and wearing out their referral video for months. They brought us into the orphanage directors office to interview us and review our paperwork. We were told that there might be a possibility of meeting our little ones that day but it wasn't sure.
After about a half hour of the paperwork I turned my head because a movement had caught my eye. It was a teacher holding our little girls. I was so choked up that I could only tug at my wife's arm and say "They're here".
She turned to the door and immediately burst into tears. "My babies..." was all she could say over and over as they handed us our daughters for the very first time. It is a moment that I will never forget for as long as I am alive..
I wish I could go back to about 4th grade... to Brookhaven Mississippi where I would spend a week each summer with my grandparents. It was a perfect picture of the "simple life" which I could appreciate so much more now...if I could go back. My "momo" cooked three meals a day...breakfast, dinner, and supper.
They spent tons of time with me. Maybe, snapping string beans or putting up jelly. They did not have toys, but it never mattered.
When they brought me to church, I felt so important because they brought me around to meet all of their friends. My momo would get me lots of her spoons, pans, and kitchen stuff to play with in my bathtub. They were the best and I wish I could go back with all the appreciation I have now for them...but they are gone and I am an adult now.

If I didn't have to stay there... I'd go to see Jesus perform the miracles and preach the Sermon on the Mount. I could have even stayed and eaten fish and bread with God! How can you beat that?
I would definitely have wanted to leave before the passover, though.
Because if I could, I've already lived it, I'd rather have a new experience. Or could I go back knowing what I know now? If I could do that, I used to think I'd go back to early childhood and direct my life in the direction I wish it had gone, which would be no problem if I had knowledge of future events.
But I no longer think that, because there's so much in my life I'm grateful for that I wouldn't want to change, and to go back and change things would eliminate something I have now. So, I guess really, it doesn't depend, I'd just rather not livein the past, I've spent enough of my life pining for the past, I'm ready to see what the future holds..
