Given the notion that our emotions are biochemical addictions, would you rather overcome your addictions or harness them I strongly believe that we constandly re-activate our past traumas in life because we are addicted to them. It can be extremely difficult or impossible to overcome them, particularly if they come from childhood. I would like to know different peoples views on this topic because it's something that I've put a lot of thought in to and I've seen very good examples of it in action with me.

Personally, I believe we should harness these things we are addicted to because many times overcoming addictions amounts to "white knuckling" your way through which amounts to suppression of emotions which according to Dr. Candice Pert and others leads to disease. I would remain the same to some extent I believe these things are part of what makes us us. I would however like to have a little more control over my temper, obviously a product of a rough childhood. I'm generally a strange and kinda quirky guy.

I feel too much introspection could actually bring about a negative change in some aspects. It's difficult to strike a balance between changing for the good and changing for the bad. I'm pretty well in touch with my mind and spirit(no religious connotations).

I continue to address problems of this sort based on my life, martial arts and to a very small extent what I've read. The human psyche is so diverse that I have a hard time believing one hundred percent of what I've read on the mind. Well...I am not sure what you mean by "harness. " It sounds to me that by saying it's a good thing to harness your addictions, all you are really doing is giving yourself permission to give in to them. I also don't know if I agree about "white knuckling" and supressing emotions.

If anything, I have seen addictions supress emotions. My good friend was addicted to drugs and only became free by giving them up. A year later I would hardly say he's "white knucking" - no, he's free to be whomever he wants and has stopped covering up his uncomfortable emotions (anger, fear, sadness) with drugs.

Also, having been through trauma myself, I cannot see harnessing rather than overcoming. I do not want to harness the negative energy that is associated with these. I may have to accept that they were a part of my life, and have helped make me who I am, but I would rather embrace that I am free each day to choose whether or not I allow myself to be tied by them and I choose not be.

1 Yeah, that's really cool to give me a wrong rating on an opinion based question. Who was it that lacked the basic lucidity to realize that an opinion cannot be wrong? That's the kind of nonsense that hurts online message boards.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
