The house I am finishing right now has irregular slate for the backsplash. I recommend against it. It's hard to put a flat electrical plate on a surface that is not flat.

I just did mine with glass 4" tiles--it is amazing! Depending on what part of the house you're in, the light reflects differently and is so beautiful.

I LIKE this CATAGORY! Tile is cool..you can actually paint your own ceramic tiles and have them fired..which is really different. When the Northridge Earthquake hit, and every single solitary plate, platter, glass and breakable item BROKE..I had lotsNlots of these pieces.

Ended up making a very cool mosaic tabletop I LOVE. Ive also seen some interesting back splashes that replicate the old-fashioned, printed/pressed TIN TILES..ORthey're doing alot with TITANIUM these days. Installing it around fireplaces and around large, industrial stoves..the great thing about Titanium is that when heat's applied, it gets these great colors and striation throughout it..They make "half" bricks and stones/pebbles/rocks..with a flat surface so they can be easily applied, too.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
