I just read House Rules by Jodi Piccoult. I was addicted to reading it! Really a great book.
Any novel by Jodi Picoult, she is an incredibly talented writer and her books are so well written they are difficult to put down.
Read 'Oil! ", by Upton Sinclair. It's not only extremely good but is the novel that the critically acclaimed film "There Will Be Blood", starring Daniel Day-Lewis was based on.
If you are also interested in the movie, look for the collectors edition and on the inside fold-out there is a passage from the book, and in the movie that passage is portrayed nearly word for word. It's really cool how books and films go hand in hand like that sometimes!
The jungle by upton sinclair is also a very good book because of the emotional appeal (assuming that's what helps keep your interest to the very end. ) :).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
