The entire Bharatbhoomi is spiritual, not just 3 states. That is why Sri Krishna says in Gita..'whenever there is a decline of dharma in the land of Bharata, I will manifest myself'. 'Osho' ais from Madhya Pradesh.
He was non-religious but spiritual. I would like to mention a few things about the spiritual significance and contribution to Hinduism from the state I come from...Tamil Nadu. 1.
This is the place which gave birth to the Bhakti movement. 2. The 12 Alwars who defined the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu throughout India hail from this state.
It may be noted that the greatest devotees of Vishnu, the alwars, came from lower ranks and caste in society. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alwars 3. The 63 Nayanmars, devotees of Lord Shiva who took the Bhakti movment to its pinnacle, also come from this place.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nayanars 4. The ancient Dynasties of South India...the Cholas and the Pandyas who were Hindu monarchies have built more temples during their rule and hardly any palaces. Them along with Pallavas, Cheras and Vijayanagaras succesfully restricted and held the Mughals and Islam from penetrating into South.
These dynasties were responsible for spread of Hinduism to places outside India during those times. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chola_Dynas... 5. Tamil Nadu has more than 2500 important Shiva Temples.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiva_Temples_of_Tamil_Nadu 6. Ramanuja Acharya the exponent of qualified dualism comes from this state. He was exiled during Kulothonga Cholas rule because the dynasty were Shaivas and Ramanuja was a Vaishnava.
Inspite of odds, he survived and wrote some good books on his ideology. He is known as one of the greatest Vaishnava philosophers of India. 7.
Spiritual and philosophical books like 'Tirukural' and 'Tirumantiram' authored by Tiruvallavur and Tirumoolar are considered as gems in ancient literature. I would suggest non-tamil members to read these books translated in English at least once. They are classics.
8. The Brihadheeshwara Temple in Tanjavur is a part of Unesco World Heritage Site. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brihadeeswarar_Temple ((Edited)) I may have misunderstood your question in that context.
If it is absolutely wrong, I will withdraw the answer. But a tree will never give fruits and flowers if the roots are not strong? The people I have mentioned have strengthened the roots of Hinduism in India for it to flower anywhere in the world.
There are hundreds and thousands of them. I have only mentioned a few names which I know of from the state I come from. In your list itself there is a person from Tamil Nadu.
If you knew that he was from Tamil Nadu then obviously you would not have added that name in the list. You are mistaken. Swami Sivananda Saraswati is not from Kerala, he is from Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.
His student Swami Chinnmayanda is from Kerala. Any great saint of India including Osho knows who is Ramana Maharshi and which place he is from. If the question is also of making India popular around the world, then I have a list of people from TN who have made India popular internationally through achievements.
1. A.R. Rehman ( Academy Award winner for Best Music Composition) 2. C.V. Raman (Nobel Prize Winner for Physics) 3.
Night Shyamalan (Hollywood Director) 4. Vishwanathan Anand (World Chess Champion) 5. Abdul Kalam (former President of India) 6.
Narain Kartikeyan (India's first formula one driver) 7. S. Vijayalakshmi (first woman Grandmaster from India) 8.
Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar (Nobel Prize for Physics) You are comparing states and fueling hatred and controversy here. I said clearly I am only mentioning a few names from my state. I never said that Tamil Nadu is top or has no parallel, the way you said about Bengal.
One things is for sure, one cannot miss contribution of people from Tamil Nadu in various fields, be it entertainment, sports or spirituality. You seem to have some personal issues with Tamils, which I am not aware of. But when a contact regularly insults Tamils at all opportunities, it is hurting.
Many times you have said that I am not a Tamil. Its because you never understood people. You are generalizing, without bothering that some of your good contacts are Tamils and without thinking once that they will be hurt by your statements.
Pls stop this kind of targeting. There is a limit to everything. Thanks.
Now stop fuming and give me the BA. ... ;) ((Edited)) I am not criticizing nor do I want a BA. That was just a joke.
I am not a part of any group activities here. But the fact is that I am a tamil and when you call your harassers as Tamils in general, I know that you are not right. I know of many tamil members here who just answer a few questions and go to sleep.
I don't answer Vaishnava questions because I simply don't know the answers. Philosophically handicapped. Kya karein?
LOL, now just ask a hatred question on Punjabis or Telugus and see the response. You will be surprised.
Every one likes his state and culture. Whole of Bharat Bhumi is Punya bhumi. The whole Arya Vrata is spiritually fertile and has been bringing forth great saints and prophets who changed the face of mother earth.
Some more additions to your list - Buddha (Bihar) - Guru Nanak (Punjab) - Sufi Saints Bulle Shah, Baba Farid, Waris Sha & many others (Punjab) - Chankya (Bihar) - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (Tamilnadu) - Shri Jaggi Vasdev (Karnataka) - Kabir (UP) - Meera Bai (Rajsthan) - Baba Ramdev (Haryana) etc etc Whole of Bharat Bhumi is vibrant with spiritual vibrations... no particular state! EDIT : jayaji Great Ape is correct. Swami Sivananda was born as Kuppuswamy on 8th September 1887, in Pattamadai, Tamil Nadu.
After graduating in medicine, he started practicing in Malaysia for a prod of ten years. As time passed, he started feeling that medicine cured a person only at a superficial level, without even touching their soul. People are affected by problems only at a physical level, but also at the spiritual level.
His spiritual quest made him leave Malaysia in 1923 and come back to India. His great disciple Vishnu Devananda was from Kerala, who resigned from Indian Air Force and joined him If you and ape have played well and enjoyed it, then either close this question or delete it. I know this question has not been reported because you might have blocked all those whom you mentioned LOL Now chant Aummmmm and dance with me.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
