Has a public company ever bought a company to shut down its original company that made it big to replace it with the one it bought?

For instance, if Google saw someone building a better or more innovative search engine than Google, and saw it was a threat to its core search business. Would there be any possibility Google (name another company here) would shut down the original Google and replace it with the new search engine it bought? : Yes.

Just wondering if anyone has an example of this happening in any business, or the history of businesses. Has this ever happened throughout history where a company has bought another company and replaced its original core service or product with the company that it bought? : Yes, I know the incidendecs in pharmaceutical companies.

Fisons was a British origin multinational pharmaceutical company. Rhone_Poulanc another British pharmaceutical company bought Fisons and became a larger pharmaceutical company Rhone-Poulanc-Rorer (RPR). You see or hear about companies buying companies and shutting down the company it bought.

Has it happened the other way around? I'm looking for core business examples, not examples of a smaller entity of a business. Please provide your example below.

RPR (Rhone-Poulanc-Rorer) later acquired other larger pharmaceutical companies and HMR (Hoechst, Marrion, Roussel) and merged with French pharmaceutical giant Aventis and changed its identity internationally as Sanofi-Aventis Ltd (one of the largest pharmaceutical company worldwide). So, in existing "Sanofi-Aventis", there are many small pharmaceutical companies like, Fison, RPR(in which there are May & Baker, Hoechst, Marrion, Roussel, etc). Hopefully, it will serve the purpose.

When you have a conventional E-Commerce site that's working fine, then replace it with a cloud-based site and conversion rates drop, you don't just blame site design. The site's new design didn't drive traffic away -- traffic went up slightly. It was just conversions that dropped.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
