Absolutely. I started off using Cold-Eeze lozenges and now take a zinc supplement every couple days. I have NOT gotten a cold since taking the zinc supplements, nor has my dad who has diabetes. My dad hasn't gotten sick in over a year, and he used to come down with absolutely everything.
I highly recommend zinc supplements!
In the past I used zinc lozenges when I felt a cold or sore throat coming on. I think it was worth it. It is hard to tell how worse my cold would have been, but it seems to keep them short lived or not very significant.
Now, however, I take Cold-eeze as soon as I feel a cold coming on. It's usually found where the cough drops are but cost a lot more. They are like a cough drop because you suck on them.
My store sells them for about $6 for a small package. These have really worked for me. I haven't had a full blown cold in years.
These contain Zinc. Here is a little more info on this product.
Thanks for all the information about using zinc to prevent and alleviate colds. I am going to try cold-eeze and Vitamin C next time, or perhaps start taking a zinc supplement. I am already taking a Vitamin D supplement, which is suppossed to also prevent colds from taking hold in your body.
I will look into zinc some more.
I use an herb called Astragalus instead with a lot of success. Zinc bothers my stomach.
It does wonders and fights cold especially when coupled with vitamin C.
I personally used zinc gluconate because it is better absorbed by the body. I also go for natural sources of zinc - veggies.
Vitamin E is wonderful for preventing colds or getting over illness quickly....a boost to the immune system. I have found that if someone in my family is sick and I take 2 a day I most likely will not come down with whatever they have.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
