Has anyone recently taken an EIT (Engineer in Training) Test in one of the larger US states? in the State of California? Colorado? New York?

I took it several years ago. It doesn't matter what state you take it in--it's the same test created by NCEES. The only reference you'll need is Lindeburg's FE Review Manual. It would also help to get a copy of the equation booklet and study the layout of that.

If you're still an undergraduate, you will not need to study much. Go through the review manual mentioned above and work as many problems as you can every night for 2-4 weeks before the exam. If you're out of school, your preparation will be longer.

For this, I recommend you follow the advice in the manual.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
