Has anyone used Callanetics? If so, how did it work for you? Did you get the results it promised?

Yes, I have.....and I did see results. They’re not fast results, not as fast as Callan Pinckney says, but I did see wonderful results with certain areas of my body (I used this exercise regimen for about 6 months. I'm 5ft tall and weigh about 120 lbs).

I only used the basic (originally released) exercises about two to three times a week and noticed a difference right away with my arms and abs. I saw definition in my biceps and felt stronger in my shoulders (I tested this by doing push ups, which I’ve never been any good at). And, after doing those "Callan Crunches" (as I called them), I did begin to notice a definition in my ab muscles, i.e.

I actually saw them. This took about two months. My hips, buttocks, and thighs, however, were a different story.

I struggled with the two floor exercises (the lean-over-leg-lifts); it took me about three weeks before I could even lift my foot off the floor. Finally, I could lift my foot, but I don’t think I was following the proper form and did not see the results I was expecting. I did become frustrated with these exercises, but kept doing them anyway (figuring something was better than nothing).

I never really saw any results with my lower half. My diet did not change and I didn't do any cardio along with these exercises. My guess is that if I had, I might have had better results, as most exercise plans say you have to eat a balanced diet in order to see results.

Overall, I'd say it's a good program if you need low impact and exercises that do not hurt your back. However, if you are looking for a workout program that covers the cardio + strength training bases, I'd have to suggest finding another program or adding a cardio routine to your Callanetics workout. Hope this helps.

I have used it but not as often as I should have (could explain my shape but that's another story) I can tell you for sure that it does work. I used it every other day for 2 weeks or so and saw results in that amount of time that were noticable. I was SOOOO sore!

If you haven't tried it, buy one of the old tapes and give it a shot. I bet that you would like it. It is an interesting workout as well, very different from what is normally available.

1 Yes, and I feel it was one of the most successful programs I've ever used. The results were very noticeable after about 30 days. I used the program two to three times a week for over a year, and it very definitely improved my upper arms, chest, abs, thighs, butt.

I'm 5'3" and started about about 20 lbs overweight and out of shape/flabby. I liked the low-impact aspect, and combined it with walking two to three days a week until I was fit enough to manage more strenuous aerobic exercise. Over about a six month period I lost about four dress sizes and was very happy with the improvement in my body shape and firmness, and the way everything "lifted."

No more jiggles! I highly recommend both the video and the book.

2 I have used both the original and the AM PM exercises, I really enjoyed them. If you are just getting started with an exercise program this one is subtly tough. I found it sort of relaxing like yoga.

The results are subtle at first as well, but if you do it right you WILL see results. A great stress reliever. If you want to speed things up a bit you should fit in some cardio also.

If you can get out and walk as much as possible it will really help. Even if you just start by parking far away from the grocery store or taking a walk at lunch time. It really depends on what kind of shape your in now.

If you are fairly sedentary then start by trying 15 minutes walk 3 to 5 times a week then increase to 30 minutes ect. The better condition you get in the more you will want to do. Wait till you see how good you feel, when the jiggles start to fade!
