I believe The United States has been both somewhat effective and lucky when it come to preventing terror attacks. When it comes to being effective, the Unitied States Intelligence agencies ( the FBI, CIA, Homeland security etc. ) work a lot better together than the did before 9/11. They are a lot better at sharing information and have been fairly effective on foiling possible terror attacks.
However, nothing is perfect and once in a while they let one slip through the cracks (Time Square Bomber, Underwear Bomber). Luck comes into effect when people slip through the cracks. The Time Square Bomber didn't know the proper way to make a elementary level bomb, so all the bomb did was smoke.
The Underwear Bomber's bomb didn't go off, all he did was burn himself. Lets not forget to mention the brave person who tackled the bomber and made sure he couldn't set the bomb off. Enforcement officials were successful at tracking down the Time Square bomber before he was able to leave the country.
It is a good the they double check the no fly list ( this in my opinion is both lucky and effective). The United States is definitley improving its effectiveness. Luck however, good or bad I feel will always be apart of the equation.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its many partners across the federal government, public and private sectors, and communities across the country and around the world have worked since 9/11 to build a new homeland security enterprise to better mitigate and defend against dynamic threats, minimize risks, and maximize the ability to respond and recover from attacks and disasters of all kinds. Together, these efforts have provided a strong foundation to protect communities from terrorism and other threats, while safeguarding the fundamental rights of all Americans. While threats persist, our nation is stronger than it was on 9/11, more prepared to confront evolving threats, and more resilient in the face of our continued challenges.
Read the Implementing 9/11 Commission Recommendations, Progress Report 2011. Protecting the United States from terrorism is the founding mission of the Department of Homeland Security. While America is stronger and more resilient as a result of a strengthened homeland security enterprise, threats from terrorism persist and continue to evolve.
Today's threats do not come from any one individual or group. They may originate in distant lands or local neighborhoods.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
