Have you ever been given a gift that you really disliked and actually told the giver so?

I was the recipient of the criticism........... Time: X-mas 2005 Place: At work in a small manufacturing place in NJ (I was a manager) Occasion: Secret Santa gift exchange (gift to be $20, no more no less) I picked the name of our graphic artist. Tall, lanky guy that spent the day talking about himself and the wife. Vacations in Tuscany and wine this, wine that etc... We had lunch together every day and I considered him a friend.

Gift that I selected: I went to my local fancy Wine & Liquor store and bought a nice $48 wine bottle opener. I could not buy a gift that was only $20. We had bought that opener ourselves and we loved it.No more fiddling with the cork screwer.

Well! Was he annoyed at the crappy gift, he said. He had listed a CD that he wanted for $18.

4 years later he still comments and I have not told him I was the giver. We no longer work at that sweat shop but we keep in touch by phone, email, facebook etc.I decided that next time he comments I'll share the thoughts behind that gift. Jerk!

What do you expect of two drunks (he and his wife)? Yes the passing forward gifts usually making sure that the gift will be appreciated. If I do not need it and no one wants it it will go to Goodwill.

You have to be careful if the giver is going to keep tabs on it. I have a friend that goes to Paris and buys me copies of expensive brands specially handbags (sometimes some ugly stuff)... then she wants me to tell her when I use it. I'm glad I talked about her..... is her birthday today.

I better call her or she will never forgive me! Time and time again I tell all the close people that I don't need anything. When I do, I go out and buy it.

It was just too much effort giving hints to the family about the things that I needed. If they insist I request donations to animal causes in my name (Humane Society, ASPCA, World Wildlife Fund) or a PetSmart card so I buy the food at drop it at a local shelter.

One Christmas several years ago my now exhusband bought me several new outfits. They were beautiful, but they we many sizes too large for me. I wear a size 10 or 12 and these clothes came from a large woman's shop and were sizes 3X and 4X.

When I asked him why he thought they would fit me he said he picked out a sales woman who looked like she was my size and these were the right size for her. I was devastated that he thought I looked that big. When I returned them they would give me store credit only and they had nothing in the store I could wear.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
