Have you ever wondered how many people are "watching" a question on Askville?

Similar questions: wondered people watching question Askville.

Yes, but no.... From the comments that often come lightening fast, I KNOW people are watching a lot of the questions here! It's funny sometime how something is posted and almost immediately the comments start. And I know it's not all "forward this question" kind of thing.

People are watching, even with out pushing that button! I know I do, and rarely use the "watch this question" feature. But anyway, as far as keeping track of how many are watching a question: yes, it would be interesting, but I just hate to see more and more things here that promote more competition between members.

I prefer to keep the focus more on the questions and answers. Others might get paranoid or just curious, and worry about who it actually is that is watching their question, like they do about the faves feature! Lets not cause any more stress than there already is here.... As soon as someone saw that there was a hit counter, they would want people to click on it to boost the numbers, in some cases. So how accurate would that count be?

Most websites use this kind of feature (and I'm sure Askville does on every page! ) but they make it invisible so that a visitor can't see it. Poppet!

No. Not really! I hadn’t really thought about that.

I am interested in questions that I like and not those that others like! That is probably the main reason that I hadn’t thought about that! With the recent changes and now having "popular" questions I think it is good if they add this option and use it as a parameter to choose popular questions instead of only counting the votes.

I am not really interested in popular questions but apparently some people are! I think it could remain private or be public. Both are fine to me.It might make a bit of competition if it is not private at first but after a while the excitement wears off and there would not be any competition really.

Look at "I like this answer" option. I don’t see any real competition about that. However I do see people voting other answers to show their anger with a specific answerer.

An interesting thought, but not real high on my list I can think of one instance where the number of people watching might be useful to know. As an active user of the gold multiplier superpower, I frequently put questions on my watch list. I keep an eye on them until the “cool down” period is over and I can activate my gold multiplier and answer the question.

If I see the number of answers creeping up fairly quickly, I know that if I want to answer that question, I need to grab a slot and not wait for multiplier time. If I knew how many other people were watching the question, this would help me make a better decision. But other than that, I can’t really think of how else it might be useful to me, other than as a curiosity. It would probably make me crazy, kind of like fans.

I don't think there'd be a privacy issue if they didn't say who was watching. But I’d probably start to wonder WHO was watching, and WHY. Now I can see a rating posted for some questions with mature detail content... as there (are) minors present on Askville... that would serve a purpose....JMO O.B.T.W. It would interest me. I would mostly be interested in how many people are watching questions I put in my watchlists. Then, I could know when to take the questions off of my list, when most people have given up on tracking the discussion board for the question.

I have lots of closed questions in my watchlist that are just there so I can quickly get back to the discussions every few days to see if anything new has been discussed.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
