I read a review where they said that when someone asks you if you've read all the books on your shelf this was a sign of ignorance because anybody who really reads knows that you never read all the books on your shelf. Do you believe this is true? Asked by Jekyll 33 months ago Similar questions: read books shelf Arts > Books.
Yes... I believe this is true. I'm a lifelong reader and there are many books on my shelf that I haven't read and probably will never read. There are several reasons for this phenomenon.1.
Sometimes you buy a dud. This is true with clothes, food and anything else that you buy. Either you don't like it, or the clothing doesn't match with anything else, etc.Books are the same; some are unreadable and stay on the shelf.
2. Some are excellent but just too long for modern readers. Example: War and Peace by Tolstoy; I just couldn't get through it.
(Maybe someday! ) 3. Some are very good but too depressing or disturbing.
Example: Green River Killings by Ann Rule. I had to stop reading this one because I was having nightmares.4. Others are heartbreaking like A Child Called It.
I managed to read it, but couldn't read the sequels to this saddest of stories. Well due to the fact I have about 1,000 boo0ks (9 bookcases floor to ceiling) NO I haven't read all of them. I have read ALL of my nutrition/vegan/food chemical etc. Books....& I'd say at least 60% of my fiction. I have quite a few new ones I haven't gotten to yet.
Also I books hop at least 3 times a week so my TBR pile is HUGE. I used to read at least 3 books a week....and in the summer I will go back to that at the pool, but during the winter I am busy writing & working on other projects. I will however read the book first if I am going to see the movie.
Currently I am reading "Dizziness & causes of Vertigo" & New Dawn, I like to read a couple at a time. Books are my passion..
No, I buy more than I can possibly ever read... I would probably say thats true, I have lots of books on the shelf untouched, I like buying from flea markets randsacking boxes of books, book stores combing the shelves provide a great source for out of print and interesting reading and then the latest number ones. It would be impossible for anyone to read all the books on their shelves, if I'm lucky I can read two or three a month and no more that is during the winter months, even less in summer one if I'm lucky! There was a time when I HAD read all of the books on my bookshelf... however, that was back when I only had a couple hundred books on the shelf... currently, I am about 30 books behind on my reading. If I catch up on the books on my shelf that I am interested in reading, the next step is to trade in those I am less-than-interested in reading for more that I AM interested in. Therefore, I think the question in question is a valid question.
Not that it is definitive of character in and of itself, but it can give you clues to the reading habits of the individual.
I have read all and some twice. I have a floor to ceiling bookcase in my living room that my husband built when we first purchased our house. I have over 500 books that I have read and some of which I have read a couple of times.
Last year I did some major cleaning and got rid of a couple hundred books that I donated. Even though I gave so many away I still have over 500. I love reading and usually read a book a week, but the last few years I have just plain run out of room.
Now I go to the library and check out books. From my experience most people that I know who are avid readers have in fact read all the books on their bookshelves. I find that people who like to impress others with their stuffed best seller bookcase are many times the ones that buy books but do not read them all.
A teacher I had in elementary school once told me that "If you love to read, you will never be lonely". I believe that! .
What do I need to download books off the internet and read them.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
