Have you tried those energy saver fluorescent light bulbs? Do they really cut costs? How are they quality wise?

I'm referring to these:http://www.amazon.com/Globe-Fluorescent-Incandescent-Equivalent-6880201/dp/B000GBBUDO/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-7651548-2494550?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1191285151&sr=8-1I've installed a few so far. I have noticed that sometimes they aren't as bright as usually. I'll turn on the light and notice it being a lot dimmer than usual.

Have you noticed any problems with them? Do you think they compare to regular old light bulbs? Asked by dwdrums 50 months ago Similar questions: energy saver fluorescent light bulbs cut costs quality wise Home > Home Improvement.

I use them nearly exclusively. Every light bulb in my apartment is a CF. I also got my HOA to install CF bulbs everywhere in our building they could (some of our fixtures use those awful tiny halogen bulbs.) I think they work great.

The light is great, warm and flicker-free. You can get them in "warm white", "cool white" and "full spectrum" but I just got whatever was cheap, and they are great. The apartment is noticeably cooler in summer, as is the entire building.

And we have seen reductions in our electric bills (how could we not? ) I have not had any problems with them at all. They do take a few seconds to reach full brightness, and that might be what you are seeing.

Gher quality bulbs reach full brightness faster (and also last longer. ) I guess the other reason you might be noticing less brightness is that your bulbs might be too low in wattage. You can generally assume that CF bulbs are equivalent to incandescent bulbs of 3 to 4 times the wattage.

So a 25 or 27-watt CF puts out the same light as a 100-watt incandescent. But CF bulbs aren’t inherently dimmer. How can they be?

You can buy CF bulbs that are equivalent to 500 watt incandescents. If you want to buy higher quality bulbs, or if you want dimmable bulbs, you can go online to 1000bulbs.com or www.bulbs.com. The best ones I have seen are made by Neolite.

They also have less mercury than other CF bulbs (so if you break any CF bulb, sweep it up into a plastic bag and tie it up. If you city has a special disposal method for them, use it. ) This is kind of interesting: in two of my fixtures, I am using air purifying CF bulbs. It is not a gimmick; they are coated with titanium dioxide powder.

When light hits the powder, it becomes a strong oxidizer, eliminating odors, ozone, and even some dust. They aren’t fast, because without any kind of fan, air doesn’t flow quickly past the bulbs. But they are easy, automatic, and they don’t draw any more electricity than regular CF’s.

And most air purifiers don’t deal with ozone. Good luck!.

The Fluorescent bulbs are all I use. Let me first say that I recently used regular old bulbs, but I went to a training for ways to save money on your home energy bill. This training was put on by a Electrical employee who has the job of going out to elderly customers and helping them find ways to shave major money off their bills.

He laid out the numbers of energy usage and the cost associated with the bulbs and it really does come out to the bulbs paying for themselves in a few months use. They also will last hundreds of hours longer than regular bulbs. All of that being said, I have noticed they are a bit slower to light up.

This is because the gas inside has to warm up to become as bright as normal. After they have warmed up however I tend to find that they are brighter than normal bulbs. I now only use fluorescent bulbs, and will never switch back.

They are better than incandescent bulbs. Fluorescent bulbs are much better for the environment. I have been using them for at least five years.

They do last much longer than incandescent bulbs. You are correct that they may be not quite as bright, but I am told they have improved. Some were put in our lights at church.

We weren't told what was going on, but were asked if we could see any difference in the ones side by side with them, the incandescent lights; and I could not discern any difference at all. I especially like them for ceiling lights and other hard to reach places. Remember, though, they should not be used in enclosed fixtures and the more you turn them off and on, the shorter their lives.

We need to adapt to change. Sources: experience .

Yes I have tryed these I have replaced all my bulbs. They are dimmer when you turn on the light but come to full brightness after a few minutes. They are not as bright as regular bulbs.

They seem to last longer and I beleive my bill is a little less. Good luck! .

I don't like them, and they pose a potential threat to the environment! You’re right--despite the "lumens" noted on the package, they most definitely do not produce nearly the brightness of regular bulbs. Some do brighten-up a bit as they warm-up, URL1 main objection is that fluorescents contain mercury (which is a deadly poison) inside their tubing or glass shell, and if not disposed of in a proper manner (through special recycling), can get broken in a city dump or some other such place, and cause mercury to seep down into our water tables and so forth--ultimately creating a major health hazard!

Man has polluted the world enough, without creating "energy saving" devices (that sounds so good on the surface, doesn’t it? ) that ultimately could cause more harm than good! We can do better than that.

Energy efficient light bulbs what are your thoughts...

I am looking to save energy by using T5 fluorescent bulbs but I don't want to get new fixtures is there anything I can do.

The light fixtures in my home keep burning out the bulbs. Some only last two weeks. Any Ideas?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
