Heard on the news this morning that oil/gas companies are promising lower gas prices, in return for less stringent safety regulations at refineries and drilling sites. What do you think? Given the poor track record of following safety procedures, and the impact on the environment (& loss of life) when they have accidents, should they be allowed to lessen the safety rules now in place?
Is allowing them to cut corners on safety and save millions in profit worth getting gas for a couple of pennies less at the pump? It's a complete and utter crock. Don't believe a word of it. It simply is not true.
The scary thing is that there is a large crowd of people who have already forgotten that the deepwater horizon disaster was allowed to happen because the drilling crew IGNORED the safety procedures that were set in place.
That was the first thing that entered my mind, when I heard this. TurboB 15 days ago .
Well, the first thing that entered my mind was "extortion" but I figured that reminding people of facts would be a better point than to make accusations.
Awfull. Why don't you borcott anything that uses oil or has some derivitive of oil in it? .
Ignorance is a personal issue. Displaying it in public, and being proud to do so, is just sad. Do you have an answer for the actual question?
Do I need to dumb it down for you? Ok. The question is: would you, Rock, be willing to allow the oil companes to have less safety restrictions if it meant you could get a couple of cents cheaper gas?
When you answer the actual question, we can have a discussion. Did you enjoy your weeks vacation? I see you didn't get a very warm reception at fluther.
They pulled your *comments* a lot faster over there.... TurboB 15 days ago .
Still gathering your thoughts on this, I guess. TurboB 11 days ago .

They already get away with murder,so I would say NO! And there is no proof the consumer would see the savings, all the middle men would but not the consumer.
As I clearly stated in the question, I heard this on the news this morning. ABC Good Morning America. I was not aware that someone needed a citation to offer their personal opinion, but when they show is over and they post the videos on the site, I wil be more than happy to provide it for you. Why, thank you! Usually when something is big news it's on MSNBC right away, too, so I was surprised to see no mention of it there. Hard for anyone else to offer an opinion without seeing what exactly you are referring to.
Yes, I'm afraid you are the one who set the precedent on requiring citations even for things on the radio and tv, so I'm sure you don't mind complying with your own rules! .
Oh. I get it now! Geesh - so sorry for the slow uptake, as it is Sunday.
I just realised that it is my turn in what we affectionately refer to here as the poppetstalkerhopper! My name came up - finally! You don't really have an opinion on this, do you?
TurboB 15 days ago .
Before I can offer an opinion I want to read the information. That's all.
Would you care to point out "the attack". Just because someone has a different opinion than you doesn't mean you were attacked.Sigh. I had hoped, with the pot stirrers having gotten their final warnings, and had, for the most part, wandered off to other places to spread their sweetness and light, that this childish drama was over.
Clearly, I hoped for too much. And, by your idea of what consistutes an attack, you attacked me. Have a lovely evening.
TurboB 15 days ago .
Well, let me refresh your memory...in regards to your childish name calling when I asked for a citation: "poppetstalkerhopper! " Sound familiar? It amazes me how you continually try to turn around what has transpired here in black and white for all to read, making yourself a 'victim'.
Still waiting for the citation, by the way.
Yawn, So much drama. I'm sorry, but I don't have time to play this evening. So, turn on the stalkerhopper, (if you think I am calling you that, clearly you have never seen a lottery drawing or played bingo) and see who's name comes out next.
Talk about playing the victim! TeeHee! Don't ever change, sweetie.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
