Just bought a cedar sided house some idiot painted with house paint, now peeling. How to fix, change to stain? Some of the paint is still firmly adhered to the cedar siding..pressure washing I've been told may remove a lot of the peeling stuff, but may ruin the wood, if not that, what then?
Is it possible to to scrape off the peeling parts and then apply more house paint in a different color to the entire house that will "stick", or will that just give me the same grief a few years down the road? An expensive, but reliable method of stripping paint from cedar siding is to use RemovAll, a water-based chemical stripper. Unlike other chemical strippers, RemovAll doesn't melt the paint. Instead, it breaks the bonds between the paint and the cedar.
If a little gets caught in the crevasses, I think the weather would eventually take care of it. And then just leave it bare. Don't paint it.
As you pointed out, you don't need to paint cedar.
I do know that we just repainted our barn, and that all we did was scrape off all the flaking paint, but left the other paint there. We just painted over it. Regular repainting keeps walls looking fresh.
We were, however, repainting the same color.
Thanks Sean! Guess that's where I'm going with this place right now. Don't hate the color, just not what I'd pick.
Cheaper to just modify, rather than change all together at this point. Thanks for the advice! Wendy in GA- redtail69 13 months ago .
I think you should hire a painting contractor. Be sure that they DO NOT USE rotary sanders. This will leave circular texture on your siding, and will look GROSS.
They can use palm-sanders and similar non-circular tools. Best wishes! .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
