Early hip-hop was fun, and that is why it became popular. However, in the 90’s, a new form of hip-hop emerged: gangster rap. The glorification of being a “thug” soon became the base for which all rappers would be judged.Dr. Anthony Kwame Harrison, a teacher at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University said that “It's the partnership of hip-hop and corporate media that's brought us the negative images and the rap music that people complain most about”.
Don’t think that hip-hop is all bad. It has positive influences on society as well. It began by bringing communities and neighborhoods together on the streets of the South Bronx.
Only over time has it developed into something that may not be suitable for everyone to listen too, especially young children. For years, the positive aspects of hip-hop have been chopped and screwed by violent messages brought on by current popular rappers. Many gangsta rappers reply to this criticism by stating that they are simply “acting out a role”, even though they may or may not endorse their own “character”.(Cam’ron on the O’Reilly Factor).
This makes one wonder whether certain rappers are legitimate in the sense that they are who they say they are.
The music video depicts Nas in an inner-city environment singing with multiple children. He is a good example of a rapper actually improving the community with his lyrics. Other examples of rappers writing inspirational lines are not hard to come by.
Twista, a Midwest rapper, is hopeful in his song entitled “Hope”: “Wish my homies wouldn't have to suffer, When the streets get the upper hand on us and we lose a brother, And I Wish I could go deep in a zone, And lift the spirits of the world with the words with in this song, And I (I wish) Wish I could teach a soul to fly, Take away the pain out cha hands and help you hold them hi” This is a very inspirational song if one takes the time to actually listen to what Twista is saying. It obviously came from the heart. It reminds us all, as one human-race, to always remain hopeful.
Rap is in the early stages of its lifetime and there will indeed be many more rappers popping up around the globe. Hopefully, upcoming artists will continue to be innovative and use their lyrics to promote the better good. Don’t judge a whole genre by a few bad seeds.
Hip-hop is a culture. Not only is hip-hop a culture,a culture that produced MARC ECHO, WILL SMITH, LL COOL J, and many many others,hip-hop is the only culture that is truly open to everyone. Try to be an ASIAN country star it is not going to happen!
HIP-HOP has grown into and is continually growing into a world-wide culture, HIP-HOP is the largest culture in the world because it is pure and it is open to everyone and everyone that loves and understand hip-hop know this. That is why so many love hip-hop. HIP-HOP is the only CULTURE/lifestyle, music form or genre that can truly reflect diversity of the entire human race.
There is no other culture that can say that. HIP-HOP is universal. A person that lives the HIP-HOP culture can live AMERICA and FLY to JAPAN and blend in to Japans hip-hop culture with no problem.
I know because I lived in Germany for a year and a half and Hip-Hop was my connection. You see real hip-hoppers look way beyond race, religion, economic, and political backgrounds. Hip-Hop may just well be the ONE single unifying force that we have on this planet.
ALL real hip-hoppers and hip-hop heads are instantly united. Take a real good look at the hip-hop scene, really look at it,I do not know if you travel much, but HIP-HOP started in NEW YORK and you cannot name one country that is industralized that does not have a HIP-HOP culture on this planet. Hip-Hop is like a super culture because as hip-hop grows from nation to nation, continent to continent, each one that embraces hip-hop adds a piece of their culture in to hip-hop.
For example MANGA/ANIME,MARTIAL ARTS,SKATE-BOARDING/EXTREME SPORTS, I could go on but what I am trying to say is that HIP-HOP is and always will be an open-culture, different groups from different cultures are adding in things from their culture to Hip-Hop, that is why HIP-Hop is here to stay and is in fact the most powerful tool that we have of truly understanding one another as human beings. I am long winded so forgive me...when it comes to rap which is a child of hip-hop, the genre that makes the most money is the genre that will get the most promtion. Artist Like lil wayne and Rick Ross are selling like hot cakes.
You still have a ton of old school rappers outthere making music but gangsta rap is selling ten times as fast as any other form of hip-hop so gangsta rap is what you will get. It is supply and demand. As long as the demand is strong than gangsta is what you will get. If Rock-Rap became big tomorrow, then lil wayne and rick ross will magically transform into rock rappers..its all business.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
