Holiday What classifies holidays as national holidays and elective holidays who gets off with pay and?

Personally I get them all but before it didn't matter to me a day was a day was a day. On some holidays I was paid overtime and the day was slower and people seemed to appreciate the fact that I was there. Another thing why is there a MLK day and not a JFK day?

The federal government I assume, first of all, that you're talking about the United States. The answer varies by whatever country you're asking about. In the US, a Federal Holiday is a day recognized by Congress in accordance with Title V of the United States code.

On these 11 days (New Year's, MLK Jr, Presidents, Memorial, Labor, Independence, Columbus, Veterans, Thanksgiving, and Christmas), Federal employees have the day off, and get paid holiday time for it. Federal offices are closed. State and local offices are not required to close on these days, simply because not all federal holidays are state or local holidays for every state or locality.

Private institutions make their own rules about whether or not they are open on Federal Holidays. They make their own rules about whether or not their employees have to work those days, and about whether or not they get paid for them if they don't work. There are NO laws that control what private businesses can or cannot do on a Federal Holiday. In other words - whether you get the day off or not, and if not, whether you get paid for it, is entirely up to your employer.

(Unless, of course, you work for the federal government). There is no JFK Day simply because no Congress of the United States has ever declared it to be a Federal Holiday. MLK Day was created by congress and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on November 2, 1983.

As a side note, there is no such thing in the United States as a "National Holiday", at least not in the sense most other countries use it. There is no day that national law prevents people from working or forces businesses to close. The officially recognized holidays... The so called Federal Holidays as mandated by the Government; New Years MLK Presidents Day Columbus Labor 4th Vet Day Christmas Thanksgiving Are Elective Holidays considered, Easter, Valentines, ST. Patrick's Day etc..! All Federal employees with the exception of duty essential personnel have all Holidays off! I believe that JFK would be grouped with all other's under Presidents day!

In the world of civilians it would be up to the employers, even we in the DOD civilian department get the holidays that is those that are not needed for the day. Most of us operating the R & R facilities have to work so soldiers can enjoy their hobby or sport on these days! The civilians are compensated with time 2 and half times the normal pay to work the Holidays!

The employment outside of the Government are at the mercy of their employers, I would think that some kind of compensation is in place! The Federal Holidays for most businesses are good for making money so naturally they will remain open if for no other reason than the almighty dollar! If I remember correct they also are compensated and also fall under the Federal Holiday as do most Fed.

Congress decides what will be a national holiday. All federal employees are off on national holidays. Well, not all but most.

State governments normally go along with national holidays and let state employees off too. As for everything else it is up to the employeer. Banks for example tend to close on all national holidays but a lot of other businesses only close on some holidays.

Some states have their own holidays that aren't national holidays as do some cities. For example many large cities close down most of their offices for St. Patrick's Day and in Savannah Georgia most of the businesses close down too. Some companies have their own holidays that nobody else celebrates.

Their is a munitions plant about an hour from here and they got a huge contract during the Nixon administration. For years after that their employees got Nixon's birthday off. As for JFK (and this comes from a liberal democrat and Irish Catholic) he just didn't live long enough to accomplish that much..

Live free, work union! In general, if you get national holidays off with pay, you are a union member. It is a benefit that is negotiated with the contract (so for those who say you get nothing for your union member fees... :P There is an MLK day and not a JFK day because one had a larger lobby advocating for a holiday..

Do you need to pay for these vaccines before going on holiday with the national health.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
