They're also lighter, more compact, more transportable, have a touch-screen interface, and a longer battery life.

Well, with iPads there's the "cool" factor. It's just cool to have an iPad. The functionality isn't there yet.

For example, when it first came out, it couldn't multitask. If Apple can make it as thin and as light as the new Kindle, then they will have something. Right now, it's just a big iPhone (which it is)!

Laptop can have 3G too. Like MrItty said, it is lighter and a bit more portable. Personally I think the main difference is in marketing.

IPad is mainly for content consumption, and it does a great job, and it is "cool". Laptop allows you to do much more, but as you know many people don't need the extra functions a laptop offers. Personally, I don't see the point of having an iPad.

But that is just me. The iPhone suits me well already, and still I am planning to get rid of it when my contract is up.

I wonder the same thing. IPads also do not have any integration or compatibility to the PCs we use everyday. If you want a light weight, touchscreen, longer battery, be more portable, AND be completely compatible with your PC.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
