How can consumers buy canned cat food (e.g., Wellness) at wholesale prices or get deep discounts?

I have three cats that I feed canned cat food. I believe this is preferable to dry food for their health. However, the cat food ends up costing almost as much as I spend on my own lunches each month.

We're going through a case of food per week.At this rate, I'd be willing to buy a whole palette of food if it meant I could get a discount. Any ideas for how to do this? I can't find discounts on cat food anywhere, at least below what is offered at PetCo and other common retailers.

Here are some things you can try. Pet Food Direct is a good place to buy cat food, when you can find free shipping. Here is a link to their latest sale: pets.petfooddirect.com/servlet/website/R... If that doesn’t work, just go to petfooddirect.com Sign up for their emails, and you will get frequent sale notifications.

Sometimes the sale price is so good that even if you have to pay shipping, you still come out ahead. Don’t jump right in and order; watch the sales for a while first. As to local shopping, if you are buying from an independent pet store, try talking with the manager; he/she may be willing to cut you a deal if you buy in bulk.

Also, if you know anyone that runs an animal rescue or shelter, ask them if they would allow you to order food through them, (or have them order it for you) at their discount price. I don’t know specifically what, if any, discounts Wellness/Old Mother Hubbard gives to non-profit rescues, but I do know that some pet food brands, like Science Diet (not one of my favorite, but still) gives good discounts to rescues. I agree with you 100% about feeding high-quality cat food; it makes a huge difference!

Human-grade ingredients, and/or holistic/organic foods are best. NO corn, no wheat gluten, and very little grain is best; the label should say "beef", not "meat", "chicken" or "duck", not "poultry", "salmon", not "fish", etc. And NO "by-products"!(What an innocuous name for such horrible stuff!) You might take a look at Holistic Select, which is less expensive (at least, where I have bought it), and very high quality as well. I do hope you are buying the large (13 oz) cans?

Besides being easier to deal with, the prices are generally much better on the larger cans. The locally-owned, independent pet store I buy from has been great about ordering me the size and flavors I want, by the case, and holding them in back for me, making it much easier for me to get what I want (or, more specifically, what my cats want) without having to be limited to what they have on the shelves, or having to make multiple visits to stock up. Have you read "Food Pets Die For"?

It will *really* open your eyes to the garbage that is legally put in almost all "grocery store" brands, from Special Kitty to Purina to Friskies to the "premium" foods like Iams and Purina One. I have put a link to the book below. I hope this helps!

Sounds like you need to head to Sams Club or Costco They both require membership, but they sell at wholesale prices. You'd be amazed at what you can get there. Pet food is usually towards the back of the store..

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
