How can I control power to a 220 volt 30 amp water heater?

The power of some electric appliances cannot be changed by the user. For instance an electric kettle usually has just one fixed "power" setting However the power of some other appliances can be changed by using a power control knob or a set of push buttons For instance my 230 Volt 50 Hz AC electric "power shower" (which is a water heater) has " "Medium" and "Low" power settings gh" uses about 10 KiloWatts, "Medium" uses about 2.65 KiloWatts and "Low" does not heat the water at all: using that you will have a shower at whatever temperature the incoming water comes in at from the main supply pipe to the house If the question is really asking about how to control the amount of energy used ( = the power used over a given period of time) - which is what we have to pay for when we use an electrical appliance - the energy used can be controlled in two ways: 1) by switching it on and off and 2) by adjusting its thermostat, if it has one 1) The less time it is switched on, the less energy it will take over a given period of time. The more time it is switched on, the more energy it will take over a given period of time 2) The lower the temperature of the water is set, the less energy the water heater will take over a given period of time.
