How can I discipline my kids without spanking them?

And there are many ways to discipline a child without spanking. The important thing is to be consistent in setting boundaries when the child is young and continue this until they are grown up. It is imperative that both parents are on the same page because children learn very early to play one parent of the other, well Dad said….

As children grow they gain privileges and taking away privileges is one of the best ways to discipline a child. For example as they grow up they may get a video game or another special toy. Just because they have earned that toy doesn’t mean you can’t take it away as a discipline.

Make sure it is something you can live with, usually no video games for a day is sufficient. If you take it away for a week it may cause a week of sulking and annoyance for you. Using the time out is another useful discipline. As the child becomes a teen this turns in to being grounded.

Make sure that both of these are really punishments. If the time out for an hour means that the child is in their room for an hour with all their toys, is that really a punishment. A twenty-minute time out sitting in a chair staring at a blank wall is more effective.

The same is true for “grounding Which should include no cell phone or computer contact to be effective.

Children are natural candidates for discipline. They do not know right from wrong yet. They love to experiment with things and are curious with their surroundings. It is normal for you to have a dilemma on how to discipline your kids.

At a tender age, spanking will do them no good. They will end up learning to resent you since the physical and emotional pain will linger. With spanking, they may end up being rebellious especially when they become teenagers.

It is good to learn how to communicate with them instead. Talk to them firmly and let them understand what they did wrong. When they understand their intolerable actions and the consequences, they will gradually correct themselves.

Harmful actions lead to harmful consequences. You can embrace them and shower them with affection after talking to them.
