I knew there might be some confusion with this quesiton. It was intended for Gandalfthegray though. The quote was his and here is the entire original quote.
It is a simple pleasure and comfort. We all need something to shield us from the reality. The World is a violent home, constantly changing, shifting under our feet, literally.
Religion is a wonderful fantasy, that may be reality, none will know until we pass beyond the veil. We must allow those that need it their succour and safety.
Thus, I am not insinuating anything Mrs. Kelley. I was just asking a question in regard to an answer I got concerning religions. And about the skin off your nose ... you might have lost more than that if you lived during the time of the Inqusition and/or you might lose a lot more if you find yourself in a subway when some fantical goofs will pull a copy-cat of the London subway bombings ... Religions are bad for business in my opinion; more bad than good comes out of them (think about all these pervert priests roaming around for example).
Very wonderful question. Religion isn't fantasy because people genuinely believe it, that's why they genuinely get taken advantage of by people. Every religion believes it is the only way, that is the human part of religion and why it is such a pain in the butt for humanity.
If everyone focused on what is similar in every religion, instead of focusing on the things that separate, they would have insight into what the real truth is. Religion is a tool, created by humans to control humans. Just posting this, I know that I am going to have some upset Religious people on my hands.
However, the reason people get defensive is because they have been so indoctrinated by other's view points that they think I am being attacking. Trust me I'm not. I understand the primitive and innate need for religion, I just hope that one day we will all see that our own beliefs shouldn't define how we interact with the rest of our human brothers and sisters...
Think of things within your sensory perceptions, are they real or just fleeting sensations, are they permanent.. The major point of all major religions is their moral code, not the belief in an omnipotent parent figure that was used by the educated to teach a largely uneducated population, Buddhism stayed with that format, other religions gave the God figure prominence.
Your question poses too many other questions to be answered effectively; mankind has been attempting to find those answers ever since we climbed out of the trees.
All religions are religions of peace. That is what we all want. To peacefully and happily co-exist.
One cannot be at peace until the whole of society is at peace. We are all connected. Therefore each religion gives principles and laws of justice and humanity.
The notions of rejecting religion are rather modern notions. Rejection of religion gives one the license to do whatever his/her wish desires. This leads to chaos and disintegration of society.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
