How did Amanda Shoemaker die in Venture County?

According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, the 17-year-old Simi Valley girl was walking on the tracks with two male friends when the Amtrak passenger train struck her. Amanda Shoemaker and two friends were on tracks when the train rounded a bend and approached them from behind. Witnesses say the the three did not hear the train and when the conductor sounded his horn, only Shoemaker's friends were able to get out of the way in time.
