How did the Federal Government acquire Fort Monmouth property?

Fort Monmouth (originally called Camp Alfred Vail) was originally leased on May 16, 1917 with an option to buy (468 acres from Melvin Van Keuren of Eatontown). The land was subsequently purchased, Authority of the Army Purchase Act 25 February 1920. The Army Appropriation Act approved 11 July 1919 (41 Stat.

104, 128) prohibited the use of appropriations for the purchase of real estate or the construction of Army camps. However, in February 1920 Congress enacted a law (41 Stat. 452, 454) which modified the restriction which permitted the completion of Camp Vail.

The authorization consisted of two lines in the Army appropriation Act of 1920 "To complete the Signal Corps Camp Alfred Vail, New Jersey, and for the purchase of real estate, $110,000." I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
